One More Day!!!

Posted on August 23, 2009 at 03:21 PM

Oh my! Things have been out of control these past couple of days. Tensions are high and NO one on tour can really get their feelings straight. Most of us have been on tour for nine weeks and are just about ready to say good-bye to all the great summer friends that we’ve made and move on with the rest of our 2009 lives. Bittersweet is an understatement and people are trying to hold back their tears with no luck. No matter how different it was from Warped Tours past, this was an unforgettable summer.

If you haven’t noticed, Warped Tour is a lot like summer camp for most of us. How do we end this crazy punk rock summer? With superlatives of course! Everyone on tour votes for everything from dirtiest feet to the best moment on tour. Filing these things out was hard! When you see people every single day for over two months straight you get tons of inside jokes, memories, and make friends that literally are going to ask a lifetime. Going back to real life is going to be weird!!! I don’t wanna! Check out the categories! Who do you think should have won?

Sacramento 7941

But hey... we still have a few days left right! Getting nostalgic didn’t stop me from checking out bands like Forever The Sickest Kids or getting in the circle pit for Less Than Jake. Have you guys ever been into a Less Thank Jake pit? It’s one of the best pits on tour! You know it’s funny... all the older bands have fans that know what they’re doing but when All Time Low plays and calls for one... kids are looking around and looking around for someone to show them what their talking about. If you’re a veteran, make sure to teach that new generation how to mosh!

These next few days are going to be crazy! Be prepared for a MASSIVE photo upload a few days after Warped Tour! Maybe some more videos too? FOR SURE!!!

The Home Stretch!

Posted on August 22, 2009 at 02:00 AM

This is it folks! We’re in the home stretch! There are only five days left of Warped Tour and that means an almost official end of the summer for most of us. All of you kids are heading back to school and everyone on the tour is getting ready for what comes next... whether it’s the Glamour Kills Tout in he fall or going for a master’s degree in New York! This summer sure has been a ride, but guess what! It’s not done yet! These next few days are going to be epic! I’ll have lots of fun photos for you so stay tuned!

I remember the last time we were in California like it was yesterday! Fresno was a bit weird though... as there weren’t too many people at the show! I talked to a few kids and they said that some of their friends already started school! No wonder! Kids were still rocking out hard to bands like Chiodos and The Devil Wears Prada, having the most fun in the pit as they could. We’re back to blazing hot California weather so I wasn’t to surprised to see everyone breaking out the hoses and water guns. Even though the show wasn’t packed, we sure made the best of it.

EVERYBODY was at The Devil Wears Prada set

Mountain View on the other hand was packed! I assure you, no one could have asked for better weather at this Warped Tour. We had some great vendor food (everyone was hitting up the Ben and Jerry’s Truck!) and bands like Underoath were giving some of the best performances they’ve given all tour.

 Mountain View was amazing

An even bigger surprise was how welcoming the crowd was for punk rock legends, Fishbone! It’s always nice to see a band play who truly have earned their stripes. These guys started back in the 1970s and here they are playing in 2009 at The Vans Warped Tour. Oh... I love it here!!!

Thirty years down the line and they've still got it!

We’ve got a couple of more So-Cal shows in the next couple of days and then we’re done!!!

Going Green With The Warped Eco Initiative!

Posted on August 21, 2009 at 02:20 PM

If you’ve been following my posts you’d know I love telling all of you about some of the amazing things that happen here at Warped Tour. The organized chaos that we have all grown to love has yielded some of the most amazing opportunities for people with passions to make their ideas become a reality. The Warped Eco Initiative (WEI) is one of Warped’s biggest success stories.

The Warped Eco Initiative is THE reason why Warped Tour is the greenest festival in the world. No tour strives to go up and beyond their call of duty like this one and it’s mostly due to the efforts of the people who dedicate their time to the Warped Eco Initiative.

Tara and The Warped Eco Initiaitve along with her volunteers for the day AND a solar truck (1)

So what is the WEI you might ask? It just so happens to be a group of people who decided that they believe have the ability to make a difference by combining their love for the Warped Tour with the urgency to protect the world that we live in. This group of people, in collaboration with Earth Echo and headed this year by Tara and Chris, have made changes to the Warped Tour that push people to think about the little things that can make a difference and live a more sustainable lifestyle.

The WEI have brought a solar powered stage to Warped Tour, reduced the tour’s carbon foot print, pushed to have bio-diesel in all of the Warped Tour buses, donated biodegradable cleaning products to every band and bus, and even made some nifty magazines to educate everyone who comes to the show about how they can live a greener life! They also brought in Greenpeace to provide power to the non-profit area with their solar powered truck, which is brand new!

St- Petersburg 5190

Top all of that off with your daily group of Warped Eco Roadies! At every single Warped date about 20 volunteers show and dedicate the whole day to going around Warped Tour and gathering plastic bottles and cans to recycle. These kids literally go through the trash to salvage this stuff! People had the chance to sign up at www.warpedecoroadie.com, sponsor their favorite bands’ recycling efforts, and even enter for a chance to win a trip to St. Croix for all their efforts! How awesome is that?

Something else that these guys organize every summer is the Monterey Bay beach cleanup! Every year, the Warped Tour has a day off in Monterey Bay and does a bit of good old community service. We get split up into groups and do everything from seed collecting to cleanup up graffiti. Did I mention the WEI is awesome?!

Shasta, Monterey 7627

For more information just Google “Warped Eco” for links to all their online web goodness like their blog, Facebook group, and Warped Eco Roadie website!

We’re so close to being done people! I can’t believe it’s almost over!!!

Unless you've been living under a rock lately, you must know that this is Warped Tour's 15th year on the road! We don't mess around here and we're planning on celebrating this with a bang! I’m sure you’ve heard all about it on www.warpedtour.com, but the Warped Tour 15th Anniversary show is coming up on September 6th in LA! The show is going to be taped and broadcasted in movie theaters all over the country! Heck, I didn’t even know this was possible!!! Live in the L.A. area? You should go!!! Can’t make it? Make sure you get yourself to the movies on the 15th! Things Are Poppin' In The Northwest!

Posted on August 19, 2009 at 01:49 AM

The past two days have been crazy! First we play an INCREDIBLE venue and then we play a show that made us all realize that this summer is just about to come to an end. Everyone is feeling it out here but we’re going to make sure we go out with a bang.

What a venue!

When we played “Seattle”, the second we got off our buses, we got a glimpse of something extraordinary. This was the venue that EVERYBODY was waiting for. There’s no place on tour like The Gorge and you can see in the picture why! That’s right, we’re on a cliff! Three feet in the wrong direction and you’re going down over 200 feet! Unbelievable right?!

There were some crazy shenanigans that day like Buddy from Less Than Jake soaking the crowd with water guns and Bayside covering NOFX during their set time! Only on Warped Tour folks... I can assure you of that!

Buddy from Less Than Jake squirting the crowd

Come Portland and we are just high strung with emotions. One of the most respected bands on the tour, Bad Religion, left us today to be replaced by Thrice for the last California dates. Can you imagine a band that you’ve watched almost every single day, with everyone who’s somebody on this tour, and then seeing them give it their all in their last performance? It sure hit us hard and it really signaled that the end is near. We only have one more week! This is unreal!

No matter what though, the bands that are still here continue to give it their all. All Time Low may be one of the bigger bands on tour, but they make sure to have some fun with their fans. I love how Jack always makes sure to make this type of show intimate by taking a seat and playing right to the crowd in front of the barricade. These guys have worked their butts off for the past few years so be sure to check out their new album “Nothing Personal” when you’re craving some good pop-punk!

All Time Low

Stay tuned for some more videos about the ins and out of Warped Tour! You’ll be hearing about your favorite band’s favorite Warped foods and then see who actually makes this concert happen EVERY SINGLE DAY! I think you might be surprised! Keep your eyes peeled!

A Mile High in Denver!

Posted on August 12, 2009 at 03:13 AM

What can I say about Denver other than we’re a mile high! All that jazz about cooking at higher temperatures finally made sense as the air up here as we all really felt it as we trekked from one end of the venue to the other. The air certainly was thinner and you could hear it in some of the performances too! It was pretty cool playing where the Broncos play though... even if it was just the parking lot. Check it out!

Crazy venue, no?

It really sucks when a great band leaves the tour, but we sure made it known that they would be missed. Today The Bouncing Souls gave one of the best performances I’ve ever seen and killed it! They even got a sweet cake brought in for them by catering! With every departure comes something good... much like the whole theme of this tour. There are tons of great bands out there and we just so happened to be graced with the presence of an up and coming band that you might just fall in love with!

Poema is the name you’ll be hearing all across the blogs and billboard charts soon as this duo of sisters sure do know how to carry a note. I’d say a good 50 or so of you lucky Denver folk got to listen to some of their catchy songs at The Girls Garage tent the  other day, and I can guarantee you’ll all be talking about performance in a few months when their EP comes out on Tooth and Nail Records! In the meantime, check out their myspace at ___ for now! You’ll thank me later!

Poema

Oh and if you thought the Hurley Stage deflating on the Maine was bad... you should’ve seen the HAIL storm that hit us during 3OH!3’s hometown set! It kind of sucked... it hit us hard and kids were frantic! I still can’t believe it happened. I haven’t seen hail at Warped Tour since the great Cleveland storm of 2007! Oh well, it’s off to Canada for us! Let’s hope the weather will be a bit tamer than this!

I’ll be putting together some nice feature films for you so stay tuned! They’ll be a few!

Aiden, Cobra Starship, and The Dirty Heads in Utah!

Posted on August 9, 2009 at 03:19 PM

Salt Lake City! Where do I start?! I don’t think I’ve ever had such an eventful day! Wanna know the most exciting part? It all has to do with bands! I have never been so blown away by the talent here. It’s weird... there is only three more weeks left of Warped Tour and I don’t want it to end! Until then, I’ll keep doing my best for you!

Let’s get started with Aiden, one of my all time favorite bands on the tour. I’ve been going to concerts for over 8 years (over 1000 shows!) and have NEVER seen what I saw today. Wil asked the security guards to leave the barricade area! You know... that place where security guards stand to pick up crowd surfers. Then he told the kids to take it over! Their fans did exactly that got REAL up close and personal with the guys. It was sick! One of the best live sets I’ve seen hands down.

Wil from Aiden getting close to his fans

Artist dos! Cobra Starship! That’s right... they played one show on the tour and it just so happened to be Salt Lake City. How was the show??? AMAZING!!! Everyone on this tour made it their mission to somehow find time to see these guys and showed their support by throwing their fangs up. The show ended with a bang as Cobra friends We The Kings and All Time Low helped to finish up the set as they sang along and rapped to Snakes on A Plane. I wish they could be here for the rest of the tour!

Tons of fans for thier one day appearence

Last but not least we have The Dirty Heads. You would think I’m crazy if I were to tell you there was an awesome reggae band at Warped... but believe me... there is! These guys are far from what you would hear at Warped and I was a bit skeptical at first to say the least. So what happened? These guys killed it! Everyone was bopping their head along and I promise you their crowd grew from twenty-something to a few hundred in just under a half hour! The’ll be on for the rest of the tour so if your lucky enough to be coming to one of the next few shows, make it a point to see them!

The Dirty Heads (2)

We’re about to head way up, one mile to be exact, and play Invesco Park in Denver! See ya then!

Warped Fun in The Idaho Rain

Posted on August 8, 2009 at 02:09 PM

Boise, Idaho is officially the coldest Warped Tour EVER!!! I never actually thought I would see the day when there was a high of 65 at Warped Tour! Who says there’s global warming?! It was raining all day but most of the 5,000 or so concertgoers took refuge in the Boise stadium and gave bands something to talk about as every fan in the crowd sung along to each and every song.

An indoors Warped Tour!

The rain definitely made our day a little different from usual. The forecast said it would be coming down all day so they moved the main stage INSIDE next to the Hurley Stage! The two stages had 30 minute sets each and played off each other the second the other side finished. It was madness in there! Did I mention they packed the skate ramp in there too? It was pretty sick.

Muddy enough for you?

As far as the rest of the Warped Tour world went... it was pretty much a ghost land when it was raining! Kids wanted to stay warm, dry, and mud free so being outside wasn’t somewhere anyone wanted to be unless their favorite band was signing or playing.

All that's missing is the tumbleweed

In the end of the day though... this show was pretty darn great. You would think that if there weren’t a ton of people here, there wouldn’t be too much excitement. Dead wrong! I couldn’t even count the times that bands said the Boise crowd was the best they’ve had all tour... and meant it. Heck, I even felt it when I was in the crowd. From what I got Warped Tour really is one of those things that people look forward to all year round. Did I ever mention that’s why I love it?!

That’s all for now! We’ve got Salt Lake City and Denver coming up! I can’t believe this tour is almost over!!!

The Hardest Working Band on Warped Tour and Tiff’s Boob Cast!

Posted on August 7, 2009 at 08:00 PM

Bonner Springs! It might be a funny a name for a city but we don’t kid around here at Warped Tour! Today was one of those days where us Warped Tour folk thought the show just MIGHT be cancelled due to rain, but sure enough, that sun shined through the clouds and we had an awesome day out there! We had tons of fun stuff happening all around the show today too!

For one, a good Warped Tourian friend of mine by the name of Tiffany Mink had her boob cast painted by Less Than Jake! That’s right... a boob cast! Over at the Keep a Breast Tent (located in the Girls Garage tent), boob casts are made and then auctioned off for charity! How cool is that? We’re all about giving back here at Warped Tour. Check out www.keep-a-breast.org and www.unitetheunited.org for more info.

Less Than Jake painting Tiffany's boob cast.

I can’t help but to think about hard work every time I really think about Warped Tour. So many people put so much work into making their dreams happen here; I only hope that you get a small sense of what Warped Tour is really all about here. On that note… let’s talk about a few people who cease to amaze me on this tour…

The Exposed. Imagine just leaving everything and everyone you know behind to follow your dream in a foreign country. That’s the story of The Exposed, THE hardest working band on this tour.

The Exposed (1)

These guys came here with their equipment and their hearts. They managed to get a gig volunteering in catering every single day for the chance to MAYBE play on the Kia Kevin Says Stage. They don’t get paid and don’t even have a tent set up! They sell their CDs and promote their band via word of mouth so that’s why I figured I’d give them some spotlight on the Word of Steve! These guys have got some talent and if you like punk, ska, and rock and roll... you gotta check these folks out www.myspace.com/theexposed is the link to follow. Make it happen and show them some love! If you see them around the show… tell them Steve said to say hi and it’ll make their day!

Oh! Totally random... today there was surprise acoustic set from Craig (Chiodos) in the Girls Garage Tent for the second time! SWEET! Keep your eyes peeled at your favorite bands merch booths for other surprise appearances!

We The Kings Are Finally Here!

Posted on August 6, 2009 at 11:56 PM

St. Louis! Well sort of... Maryland Heights actually. Doesn’t that get confusing when we play a city that’s nowhere near the big city? Anyways, no matter where we play, we sure know how to have a good time! You guys continue to blow my mind at these shows! I couldn’t even get from one corner of the parking lot to the other without getting stuck in a merch world traffic jam! One thing that’s for sure is the excitement just keeps on growing... even as we enter the home stretch of the tour! Can you believe we even got a new band??? Read on!

Today We The Kings joined the tour and folks... these guys are awesome! I remember when this Florida foursome played the Hurley stage last year and worked up their fan base from scratch! WTK played all their hits AND covered one of my favorite bands of all time... Jimmy Eat World!!! Check this out... WTK also played FIRST (11:55!) on the main stage and look at their crowd! That’s dedication my friends, not to mention THE reason that you all should show up early!

That's a lot of people for the FIRST band of the day

Speaking of moving on up... who do you think should be playing the Main Stage(s?) next year from all the non-mains this year? Don’t see it in my poll? Let me know in the comments! I’ll be sure to spread the word to the higher ups!

Anti-Flag and Some Midwest Hospitality

Posted on August 4, 2009 at 02:08 PM

Hellooooooooo from Minnesota! Today was just an all around chill day. We played Shakopee, Minnesota, a name I can just say over and over again because it’s just way too much fun to say and loved every second of it! I definitely saw a bit of that good old Midwest hospitality here today, as these kids were just so nice! At one point someone in the crowd passed out right in the middle of a busy walkway! What did people do? They helped pull that person aside, got him water, grabbed a medic, and STAYED with him to make sure he was alright! Working on this tour, we see things like that everyday but never did complete strangers actually want to stay with the person until they were given the go by a medic. Minnesota rocks!

On a bittersweet note... today was Anti-Flag's last day on tour. Out of all the “older” bands that came out this summer, the guys in Anti-Flag were definitely the youngest at heart. No matter what was happening throughout the day, these guys were up for it.  Always showing up at press with smiles on their faces, hanging out with just about everybody during the after show BBQs, and giving it their all during their show; Anti-Flag really brought a lot of character to this tour. Did I mention they helped out with every charitable event we had on this tour including Create-A-Skate and Build A Drum? When I was younger, I never really listened to these guys but I couldn’t be more sincere when I say that Anti-Flag really made my summer and I have become a huge fan.  Justin, Chris, Chris #2, and Pat will surely be missed, but in the mean time you can check out their new album, The People For The Gun, as they prepare for their Eastkpak Antidote Tour in Europe this fall.

Also.... guess who’s going to be on Fuse! Keep your eyes peeled for one of those Warped Wednesday spots!

Detroit Rock City

Posted on August 2, 2009 at 02:12 PM

Yeehaw! That title will never get old. One thing that made this venue and show so different from the rest was that we have played in an MLB stadium! It was sick! The fact that we joined two completely different worlds together was just unbelievable! One of the newest baseball stadiums in the states and the biggest touring underground rock show around coming together in one place. It sure was a sight to see! Top that off with a crazy hometown Chiodos set and some of the most excited fans I’ve ever met, and you have yourself one out of this world show! Did I mention there was a Johnny Rockets across the street too that made everyone and their tour manager almost stop their sets for burgers and shakes??? Um.. definitely one of the best shows ever.

MLB and Warped Tour. crazy.

Another thing... you gotta give credit when credit is due and After Midnight Project has sure earned it! These Los Angeles rockers kill it every day on the Kia Kevin Says stage and have one of the more unique sounds out here (in a GOOD way!) and are getting ready for their new album that comes out on August 11th! I walk by their set everyday and I’m always surprised. They’ve got a little something for everybody, no matter what type of music fan you are. Having been just signed to a major label and definitely having what it takes to make it, I suggest you head over to www.myspace.com/aftermidnightproject now and give them a listen!

Spreading The Word About Skate4Cancer

Posted on July 30, 2009 at 04:33 PM

If you’ve been to Warped Tour there’s a very good chance you were walking around and then out of nowhere, was blinded by the pearly whites of a guy named Rob Dyer, founder of Skate4Cancer.  What is Skate4Cancer you might ask? Well prepare to find out!

You know how much I love a good run down of a great organization and Skate4Cancer is sure up there on my list. Skate4Cancer helps people learn about how to detect cancer early and also to prevent it in the first place. One thing that struck me about this cancer awareness group was how Rob got the word out about his mission. He felt like he needed to do something that would really get people saying “wow” and as a result, came up with the idea of skateboarding all across Canada and the United States! How crazy is that?! I can barely even skateboard uphill!

Rob started his skateboarding journey across North America in 2004. Throughout his travels, Rob told his story to the locals of every town he passed through in addition to making stops at multiple hospitals all across the two countries. After two months of pushing himself to the limit and over 5000 miles later, Rob finished what he started.

Come 2009 and Skate4Cancer is still rocking stronger than ever! Skate4Cancer has deep roots in the music scene and continues to hold events all throughout the year. Rob is out on every single date of Warped Tour raising awareness about cancer and selling some pretty nifty shirts for $5 dollars to keep his dreams of spreading awareness by doing what he loves alive. Speaking of which... for doing a good thing and looking super fly, there’s no excuse for you not to buy one!

When you make it out to Warped be sure to check out Rob’s booth and say hi. He’ll make your day for sure. Get Skate4Cancer’s and Rob’s full story at their website, www.skate4cancer.com.

Is anybody feeling like they need to start changing the world!? There’s so many proactive people on this tour! I love it!!!

Dreams Do Come True!

It's funny how everyone at the BBQ in St. Petersburg was throwing around the phrase “We’re done with Florida!” It got us all thinking about the fact that we’re halfway done with the tour and helped us realize that we’re all a part of something much bigger than ourselves. Heck, it’s Warped Tour for crying out loud! I remember when I couldn’t wait to simply just go to my local Warped Tour and here I am touring on it with some of the coolest people I’ve ever met. It’s crazy and a dream come true for most of us.

One thing that’s definitely for sure is that everyone here has a lot of emotion and even more passion. No less than a week ago I was writing about how everyone was starting to feel the strain about these amazing, yet long, nine weeks away from home. Everyone, no matter what their title is here, have been doing some soul searching and figuring out why they are on Warped in the first place. A lot of new bands are finding their groove and making fans all across the country and getting the much deserved exposure they need follow their dreams. Some bands, like The Maine and Bayside, are seeing their crowds grow each and every day as their songs get more and more airtime on TV and on the radio. Even a photographer like Erin Caruso is chasing her dreams here by showcasing her photography as the blogger for Hurley. The list goes on and on and everyone’s passion shows no matter where you look, no matter if its on stage, the kitchen grill, or even a computer. It sure is a sight to see and makes all the hard work we do even more worth it than you could ever imagine.

Most importantly a lot of us are realizing how lucky we all really are. You might think that if you were a band out here... you’d have much better things to do than hang out with the “other” folks out here like the bloggers, hard working set up crew, or the talented chefs who travel with catering. That myth is far from the truth. Everyone here is out to have a good time and make the most of their summers, which includes making relationships that can last for years to come. Getting to know people like Justin from Anti Flag or Nick from Aiden is more like getting to know Justin and Nick. Although there are some egos out here, it’s the ones who are down to earth who really give this tour the personality it’s known for and make thistour ever more special. It’s what brings these “employees” back each and every year and gives Warped Tour the famed reputation it has today.

Woo, what a post. I think it’s time to loosen up a bit! You just wait till I see what I got up my sleeve in the next few days! See ya in Hotlanta!

Sayonara Florida, Hello Sponsor World!

Posted on July 28, 2009 at 03:01 AM

Oh Florida! We hardly knew you... yet for some reason I think we're all pretty relieved! We've had some pretty crazy weather this summer but the Sunshine State sure did take the cake for the most humid dates we’ve had all tour! (Knock on wood!) The bugs were out and the smart ones who listened to mom and stayed away from TaDa Catering’s very tempting bananas, made it out with the least amount of bug bites! But enough of that... let’s talk Warped!

I have to give some props to the guys in A Day To Remember, and even more so to their fans. We played in their hometown the other day and I kid you not, have NEVER seen such a big Warped crowd after 8 PM before. You would think that once you survived the heat for nine hours... you would just call it an early night and head home to shower, hit the lights, and pass out on your comfy bed. Not in Florida! That parking lot was filled to the brink, and in front of the Hurley Stage no less! Look out main stage... I think you have some major competition for the best bands here on Warped.

Oh! How could I forget? Here’s a little video I made for you! It’s about all the cool things that go on in sponsor world at Warped! You know... that place where you get TONS of free stuff!!! After all, if it weren’t for the sponsors... there would even be a Warped Tour! We’ve got all sorts of awesome folks in here like Flogging Molly, Alana Grace, and A Day To Remember! Let me know what you think and be sure to check out all the cool stuff around the festival when you’re not watching bands!

Hometown Heroes and BBQs!

Posted on July 25, 2009 at 01:49 PM

I must say... I don’t think ANYONE on this tour was looking forward to Florida. Ok maybe a few Floridians were, but definitely not most of us (sorry Florida!).  We’ve all heard stories about how hot and humid it would be... and we definitely were not let down. I swear no matter where you looked, you saw drops of sweat falling off EVERYONE. It wasn’t too fun at first... especially if you were waiting in line to get inside. But once you walked through those gates and saw what was going on... you all of a sudden thought, “Well this isn’t too bad. All my favorite bands are here!”

So there are TONS of Florida bands out here on tour with us!  We’re lucky enough that we get to play three shows here... the crowds have been awesome! One band you all need to check out it is Hello Danger. These guys, who just happen to be from right across the state in Jacksonville, tore it up on the Kia Kevin Says Stage! They are a perfect example of how a local band can make their dreams come true here on Warped Tour. Hello Danger had all their fans singing along and made new fans of everyone who passed by. I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again... I love new talent! Check out their MySpace and let me know what you think!

Another thing I was lucky enough to witness today was the sincerest thank you that I’ve ever seen on this tour, and that’s pretty darn sincere! While I was taking a stroll past Therefore I Am’s set, I noticed the lead singer got up close and personal with the crowd... but he wasn’t using a microphone like most bands do so I decided to listen in. He gave a speech that was so relatable, it was kind of scary. He thanked each and every person in the crowd for working at jobs they hate and buying their ticket to Warped Tour so that bands like themselves can do what they love, really touched everyone there. That’s the passion I love to see out here! Catch Therefore I Am all summer long, I promise you won’t regret it!

Therefore I Am realting to the crowd

How do we end the night? With an EPIC BBQ!!! The BBQ band, Longway, served up the best burgers and dogs we’ve had all tour and what made it even better was the fact that Westbound Train was playing. They broke out songs from their latest CD and at one point even had Shad come up for a bit of Warped free-styling fun! Everyone including the boss man himself, Kevin Lyman, was dancing it up! Good times with good people my friends, that’s what we like to do here at Warped!

BBQ 4970

West Palm Beach...here we come!!! I think these shows are changing our perception of the sunshine state.

A Wonkafied Warped Walking Tour!

Posted on July 23, 2009 at 02:56 PM

The other day in Virginia Beach I had the chance to show my brand new (and super awesome!) bus mate, Jess, around Warped Tour! You’d never guess who she works for either... Wonka! Yes, the candy makers! She might just be the best thing to happen to this tour... can you say free Nerds, Gobbstoppers, and Laffy Taffy?! Oh... life sure just got a lot better.

During our little walk I realized that the simplest things at Warped are what really make it the best festival around. Everyday I run around looking for the story that’s out of the ordinary, something that’ll get you excited no matter how many times you’ve visited my blog. The thing is, with that mindset you tend to forget what really makes this show fun. It’s moments like that when you really get a sense of how great Warped Tour is.

So what did we do? We hit up the whole festival as if it were our first Warped Tour ever. We emptied our wallets at merch booths, listened to some new bands on some of the smaller stages, signed a few petitions for non-profit organizations, and even played some Rockband! Sure it was hot and humid outside, but that didn’t stop us from getting some sweet airbrush tattoos, dancing over at the Truth truck, or watching NOFX from on stage! Want to know the best part? We made some kid’s candy dreams come true. Everyday, Jess gives out three “Gold Cards” that get you as much Wonka candy as your stomach can handle... and for six whole months too! Did I mention I think there are going to be a lot more cavities on tour this year? Check out the rest of Jess’ adventures at twitter.com/wonkanation!

7-22 Virginia 4584

On a different note, later in the evening I somehow found my way into a wine and cheese party hosted by none other than TaDa’s Catering’s founder, Shellylyn Brandler! What was being celebrated? The fact that so many old friends were all in one place of course! We had some true Warped veterans in attendance, including NOFX and The Bouncing Souls, who just so happened to be trading places today! (NOFX leaving and The Bouncing Souls joining) It really is one big family out here. Speaking of family... you’ll get to see MY Warped family pretty soon on my “Warped Cribs” video blog coming soon! Stay tuned!

Until next time! See everyone in Florida!

Boston Showers and Keeping in Touch!

Posted on July 22, 2009 at 03:53 PM

Oh Boston! You never seem to disappoint me! The forecast said rain ALL day but did that stop the show from selling out? NO WAY! All of you came out in full force and made the show as fun as can be! I saw trash-bag ponchos, mud-wrestling, and for the first time all warped tour... hoodies flying out of merch tents!!! That’s right... it was FREEZING! Cold water and rain sure don’t mix well at Warped Tour, but again... what a show! It looked like everyone there was having fun! That’s the warped spirit! Have a fun story? Share it below!

Here’s a little video about keeping in touch on Warped Tour with VersaEmerge, After Midnight Project, and The Architects.  How would you keep in touch?

Rock For Health!

Posted on July 21, 2009 at 01:33 PM

Every now and then I like to take a breather from all the craziness of Warped and put the spotlight on some of the amazing organizations out on the road with us. Let's take a look at Rock For Health, one of the sole providers of health insurance to musicians who play for a living.

One problem with health insurance today is that only people who are employed full time actually get the benefits of subsidized health coverage. However, many health organizations don’t see “touring” as a full time gig! The majority of artists who are touring do not get ay health benefits whatsoever! Crazy right?! So what’s an artist to do when they break their arm on tour? Pay $1500 dollars to see a doctor and get a cast? Not all musicians can afford that. That’s where Rock for Health comes into the picture.

Rock for Health is a non-profit organization that helps to educate musicians about their choices when it comes to keeping healthy on the road. They provide everything from advice on how to handle a sore throat to how to get the medical coverage they need to handle an emergency. Started by Kristina Grossmann, a young entrepreneur who loves music, Rock for Health has helped out countless bands including Chiodos and Anberlin. Kevin Lyman even saw promise in her company and has been invited out on Warped Tour every year since 2007!

Want to hear something even cooler? The person who started Rock for Health isn’t even done with school yet! Kristina, an undergraduate at Northeastern University, started her own company using all the knowledge she picked up in her internships, and is now making her dream come true in New York City. How crazy is that? Just makes you want to start your own business with something you love right?

Want to know more? Head over to www.rockforhealth.org! It’s an awesome site and I can guarantee that this little business will be around for quite some time… and may not be so little either!

Kristina from Rock For Health

On another note, the last couple of days have been crazy! We’ve seen everything from Lil‘ Jon performing with 3OH!3 to the BIGGEST crowds Warped Tour has seen this year yet! Heck, we even got some free ice cream courtesy of Vans! Just take one look at those flavors and tell me you don’t wish you were here?!

That wraps it up for this post! Got some videos in the works for ya so stay tuned! See you in Boston!

Free ice cream from Vans!

By the way... what do you think folks? What other good cause of the Warped Tour do you want covered? Let me know if the comments!

VersaEmerge Brings That Warped Feeling Back!

Posted on July 19, 2009 at 11:55 AM

You know, I'm just going to go out and say it. This tour blows me away every single year. As someone who has been going to Warped Tour as a fan for the better half of a decade, it’s sometimes difficult to find the motivation to come to this type of show when there are so many new bands each and every year. It’s getting hard to keep up! Sure, when I was 16, I thought I would be going to Warped Tour forever. Then came my high school graduation, college, life stresses, and other little things like many of my favorite bands from my teenage years breaking up. Granted, you have artists like NOFX and Bad Religion that have been holding it down for years now, but you can’t help but feel a little out of the loop when you see tons of screaming fans singing along to a band you’ve never heard of before. It’s a little scary... but then comes the good stuff!

It sure is great to set aside all those feelings the second you watch talented artists that you normally wouldn’t go out of your way for at home. Seeing a band that’s just “different from the rest”, like the Millionaires is one thing... seeing a truly great performance that just makes you want more and more is another. It’s those rare performances that really seal the deal for me and bring me out to local shows during the rest of the year.

Versaemerge

That’s the beauty of Warped Tour. You have tons of those exceptional performances happening all around you! Sure every band may not be your cup of tea, but you can’t like it all. One band I just can’t get over is VersaEmerge. Everyday I’ve been hearing things about them and the other day I finally got to check them out. They were insane! If you’re a Paramore fan, you need to check these guys out! VersaEmerge is fronted by the young and talented Sierra, who brings to the table a unique voice and passionate stage presence. Their show is AWESOME and you will be sorry if you miss them at your venue!

It’s that open mind that’ll make your experience here a great one! See you at the next show!

Breast Exams with Therefore I Am and VersaEmerge!

Posted on July 18, 2009 at 10:50 AM

Hey there folks! Today we're gonna take a step back from the craziness of Warped and learn about something that can save your life! Every year, The Keep a Breast Foundation comes out on Warped Tour to spread the word on breast cancer awareness, something that everybody should know something about. Breast cancer claims the lives of thousands of people each year and its organizations like Keep a Breast that teach people how to check for symptoms of breast cancer to help treat it early. Keep a Breast sets themselves up in the Girls Garage tent every single day and have a bunch of cool stuff going on that you should definitely check out when you get here. Its fun AND educational... only in true Warped Tour style!

In the meantime here's a little breast exam demonstration performed by Therefore I Am and VersaEmerge

Packed Like Sardines in Maryland!

Posted on July 16, 2009 at 05:00 PM

Hey folks! Sorry it's been a minute since we last touched base! Internet on the road is a lot harder to find than I thought! Guess I'll just have to make some extra awesome posts to make it up to all of you!

Maryland was a very... interesting venue, to say the least. We sure got our workout as getting from one stage involved hiking through a forest and swimming through thousands of concert goers! I swear it seemed like getting from the Main Stage to the Ernie Ball stage took 45 minutes! Anyways, one thing I wanted to bring out to everyone here was a non-profit that isn't going to be going to any other city, but has been at the Maryland Warped show for over three years! That organization is Skatepark of Baltimore. These guys have been collecting money and signatures to help convince politicians that they should build a skatepark in Baltimore. Who doesn't love a skatepark!? I say if you have a minute you should check them out at www.skateparkofbaltimore.com. With your help this skatepark can actually become a reality!

On a different note, I've pretty much figured that you guys want to see more video here so that's what I'm gonna do for ya! I'll have some daily postings of all the fun stuff that goes on during the day and have weekly specials to answer the questions that you give me! I'm hearing from you guys on our Facebook group so keep it coming! On that note.. enjoy!

A First in Hartford!

Posted on July 14, 2009 at 10:23 PM

Well folks, if you were at the Connecticut show then you were a part of history. This was the first time Warped Tour ever came here! You could tell by the GIANT Dunkin Donuts coffee mug that we were back on the East Coast, and you could tell that everyone who does live here was getting anxious as we approached their home towns. We have everything from Boston to Miami lined up in the two weeks ahead and I can tell you that it’s definitely going to be exciting!

On that note, I have to give everyone here props. I can’t stress how hard it is to be this close to home then think about how much longer we have out on the road. The past couple of years we used to have a tour therapist out with us but couldn’t have one out this year due to economy. I wonder what the other folks on this tour think about all that… I feel another video piece coming on! Let me know if your into it!

Speaking of videos, here’s a little run down of our first appearance in The Constitution State!

Ok folks... you're gonna love this one. Every year Kevin comes up with some crazy ideas to make Warped Tour a better experience for everyone. First, he pleased all your parents with Reverse Day Care. Now he comes up with Lockerbox! A place for you to store all your bags, merch, and valuables under a watchful eye! How much is this going to cost you? Nothing at all!!! That’s right... Lockerbox is completely free! Just go see Jess and she’ll make your day a whole lot better. Love the idea and want to give back? Well Jess loves twizzlers! Feel free to bring here as many as you want!

Special Guests in Cleveland!

Posted on July 12, 2009 at 11:39 AM

Woooo! You gotta love Cleveland!!! This venue always gets me because we play right under these two bridges that makes the show just one of a kind. (Check out the photos!) Also, after the great Warped Tour storm of 2007 (believe me... we almost didn’t make it out of that one), we are VERY thankful to be playing in such great weather! I guess this crazy tour routing is actually paying off! Who knew?

So if you were at the show, I’m sure the one thing on your mind all day was who were those special guests that were playing the main stage at 5:15? None other than Warped Tour favorites, Paramore of course! EVERYONE and their mom were excited about this one. Warped Tour kept this announcement under wraps but the rumor boards spotted this one early. Paramore got some of their biggest jumps in their career while they were on Warped so it was only fit that they would try to make it out to at least one date.

As for their performance... well little Hayley isn’t so little anymore! She got that crowd going and screaming at the top of their lungs while playing old songs and giving Cleveland a taste of what’s on their new album, Brand New Eyes, which I cannot wait to buy! What an exciting day! It’s always nice to have a little change out here.

So what do you say folks? Any other rumors you want smashed? Bring it on! I’ll get you the 411! Let me hear it in the comments!

Until the next show! See you all in Hartford! This blog is about to get some video field reporting!

Another Great Cause in Pittsburgh!

Posted on July 12, 2009 at 04:02 AM

Pittsburgh!!! Oh, how I crave your Primanti Brothers sandwiches and envy all of your championships this year! What else do I crave? Your amazing Warped Tour of course! This show was too good to be true! The setup of the whole festival was great! We rarely see grass (and we like grass) and if you match that with AMAZING weather you have yourself the perfect Warped venue! The Smartpunk and Hurley.com stages shared the Amphitheater main stage, something that happens a lot here at Warped Tour, while the other stages were at the bottom of a hill which gave everyone a great place to see the show. Mhm mhm! Wish every place we played could be like this. Anyways, onto the fun stuff!

On my quest for the unusual I stumbled upon a few kids painting a wooden cylinder and staple-gunning a tough canvas over the top. What was going on and why was it at Warped Tour? Well here’s the story! The tent had “Build  A Drum” written all across it and they, like most people out on Warped, have a story to tell. A few weeks ago there was a little festival down south that went on called Bonnaroo. Kevin and his production team went down there just to see what it was like and have a good time. In the process, he saw these three guys making drums! He told them they have to go out with him on the summer! Then bam! Before you know it, here they are. These guys allow kids to make their own drum at the show and are also having bands make their own personal drums to auction off for charity. This is right up the alley of what CreateASkate was doing that first day! Don’t you just love rad causes??? I sure do!

Remember how I said you needed to check out Aiden and their Wall of Death? Well they’ve got some competition! Chiodos, a screamo favorite on tour, came on a few days ago and not only does their Wall of Death give Aiden a run for their money, they also got a circle pit going ALL around the sound booth! Crazy, I know... but INSANE all at the same time! I swear, you think you’ve seen it all but then you just keep on getting surprised here!

Speaking of surprises... you just wait til the next post!

An Open Mind and A Little Change

Posted on July 9, 2009 at 12:10 PM

The last couple of days sure have been interesting. We've had a few days off here and there which definitely helped to boost the morale of a lot of the folks here on tour. No matter who you are, this tour is tough. Imagine being out on the road for two months, away from your friends and family, topped off with having to work in unpredictable (and uncomfortable!) weather and not even being able to find a shower at the end of the day. It’s not all fun and games out here but we sure do make it happen.

There’s one thing that’s definitely for sure though. It’s the excitement we all get from watching our favorite bands, our friends, or even just new talent on the music scene that gets us through the summer. I get to do a lot of exploring each day and I can honestly say it’s one of the greatest things in the world to have the opportunity to walk these parking lots, fields, and amphitheaters with an open mind. There are so many great bands out here and they aren’t all on the main stages either! It’s one of my favorite things about the Warped Tour and coming here and finding a new band is something you should definitely look forward to.  After all, that’s what this festival is all about anyways, right?

On that note, the other day I walked by the set of New Jersey rockers, Jet Lag Gemini, and was straight up blown away! You might have seen that crazy Iggy Pop-esque shot I took in the photo reel, but that doesn’t even do it justice! These guys were full of energy and are legitimately earning their rockstar status this year. If you’re lucky enough for these guys to be playing at Warped, you’ve gotta check them out!

The other day in Indiana, something pretty interesting happened that we don’t experience here very often. One great band was leaving the tour while another was just coming on. I’m talking about the legendary Ataris heading home and everyone’s favorite Irish rock group, Flogging Molly, joining us for the remainder of the tour. The two back-to-back sets closed out the show, which isn’t the best time since everyone is usually exhausted, but crowds weren’t even fazed and showed their support for both bands! This kind of reminds me of how Warped just keeps on coming back, year after year. I sure do love this place! Check out the photos for some of those special guests shots!

Until next time!
