do you realize how much taxes suck?  I mean, seriously.  it's like a science project.  you know it's due sometime soon and you don't have to work on it right now but it's always there.  in the back of your head.

well, it's tax time now.  and it sucks royally.

but that's not what I wanted to blog about today.
no wait.
yes it is.

taxes suck.

the fudge

my Dad reads the rock blog.  it's true.  he's hipper than you would think.  last album he bought...well, I can't remember...but it probably had Roy and Orbison in the title.  maybe Wilbury as well.

anyhoo, my Dad tells me I was getting pretty prolific in the blog arena of late.  I wrote two whole days in a row while at SXSW (figured out how to do it on my new blackberry - yeah, I'm THAT guy now) and then caught up a bit last week.

y'see kids, in the words of Johnny Rotten, I'm a lazy sod.  I should get on this here blog daily and clue youse'all into the goings on of the rock show.  But I don't.  And lord help me I don't even feel bad about it.  such is the nature of sloth, truly one of the seven deadly sins.  the other six involving more fun things.  that's how you know it's a sin people, it's fun.

today on the untitled we had the red jump suit apparatus.  nice bunch of blokes.  the first time they were in the studio.  we've spoken at length on the Warped Tour and on an un-godly Fuse show called the Amplified Guide.  we wish them well on their first ever tour of Japan.  how cool is that.  I want to go to Japan.  goshdammit

we're getting geared up to launch Fuse's new live show the Sauce.  No, I had nothing to do with the name, so don't ask me.  Hell, I had nothing to do with the name Steven's Untitled Rock Show, though I like it.

got nothing else people.  I'm bled dry tonight.  and if you haven't heard Amy Winehouse yet, just go get.  Dad, this means you too.

Day...uh...Four? Ish?

Posted on March 19, 2007 at 06:17 PM

Alright true believers, I was jamming for a minute there wasn't I? Seriously.  I posted two damn days in row!  And in Texas no less!  They don't even legally allow that there.  They have lots of laws.

So we're back with a vengeance from SouthbySouthwest and unlike last year, which I truly, truly loathed, this year was tons of fun.  Two tons of fun.  There was fun.  In tons.

First of all I got to interview my friends.  Now this may sound like a perk or nepotism but my buddies are serious musicians you can read all about in places like Pitchfork or Time Out.  Takka Takka is a band out of Queens, New York, whose drummer Conrad used to write and star in a little show on Fuse called Fuse Action News, with yours truly.  They have an album called We Feel Safer at Night and you should own it.  You can buy it at takkatakkamusic.com  and at iTunes.

I also interviewed Benjy Ferree.  Now Benjy and I have been friends for ten years now and I've watched him grow (a beard) as songwriter and as a person and he gave one of the funniest interviews ever.  His album is called Leaving the Nest.  Also available on iTunes.

We spoke to so many bands that it would be silly to list, cuz we're going to put them all on TV yo.  Everyone was great but my personal faves were Gallows, Against Me!, Bloc Party, and our good friends Circa Survive.  We did not interview but ran into Jack's Mannequin and Straylight Run.  Both tons of fun.
Now, I myself, had a little dream come true in Austin.  I was asked to stop by the Direct TV booth where Abby Genet and Matt Pinfield were doing eight hours non-stop of live coverage.  Now I know both Abby and Matt but this was the first time we all worked together.  I got to work with Matt Pinfield.  For those of you who watched MTV growing up you know what a musical badass Matt is and it was such a joy to see him and be talked to.  Sidebar:  today I was crossing the street and Matt yelled at me from a cab, scaring the crap out of me.  Typical.

Now, unlike last year, this time at SouthbySouthWest we actually got to see some bands play.  The aforementioned Jack's Mannequin, Eisley, Peter, Bjorn, and John, Circa Survive, the Forcast, Everybody Else, Gallows, and Cold War Kids.  Cold War were great by the way.  Heard they were good live but damn, they are good live.  Circa shredded as they always do.

It was loads of fun.  Tiring, we workd our asses off (our production team still are - editting the shows for your viewing pleasure) and I think you'll be impressed with the scope and range of all the artists we spoke to.  We love the music people.  We hope it loves you.

hugs,
Steven

Day Two Electric Boogaloo

Posted on March 15, 2007 at 10:31 AM

And we all return to our roots. The Forecast were the first band to start our rock and roll refinery and there couldn't be a better band to begin with. In short I love them. Buy their record In the Shadow of Two Gunmen and share in that love.

Takka Takka. Gabe and Conrad stopped by next to discuss their record. I have never met Gabe before nor Conrad. Which is a lie. Some of you old school fusers will recognize him Fuse Action News, the greatest show on fuse that doesn't exist anymore. He's funny as all hell, a fine dancer, as well as a private one. We wish Takka Takka well. You will hear of them. Much more.

The day concluded with myself and our talent coordinator Anne looking for a phone charger so she could call her peeps and get us on the list to see Jacks Mannequin tonight the I joined Fuses big kahuna for a dinner with Mr Kevin Lyman and his second kahuna Sara for sushi. That's right, in tje middle of bbq central we went out and had raw fish. Mind you it was delicious but in the world of brisket uncompapable.

Which leads us to today where we will be talking with Lily Allen, Gallows, Young Love, Bloc Party, and our old buddies Armor for Sleep. Twill be bloody marvelous.

And the suns out. Time to put on my cool macbeth optics given to me by the fine folks at macbeth who are also fine dancers.

Til then

This is a first. I just got myself a blackberr (yes, now I'm that guy) and am blogging from my hotel room in austin.
The story so far: arrived in the rain. Didn't know it rained in texas. Its big rain. Had dinner and some drinks with Aaron, Norman, and Dawn the masterminds behind Alternative Press and rocked the fudge out of a jukebox at some austin joint. And there are many.

Today we are interviewing the forecast (who completely rule) and a couple of members of super indie buzz band takka takka. That's how we roll. I roll on a blackberry. Which is very weird. The keyboard is so tiny! Compounded by the fact I had laser eye surgery last week and my left eye isn't all that great SOMEBODY GET ME AN EYEPATCH!
All for now. I'm off to the hotel gym. I just saw 300 and got inspired. Hoo-hah

Coolest Day EVER

Posted on March 12, 2007 at 06:58 PM

Today could be the one day to rival our interview with Bad Religion where we interviewed Ian Mackaye on the phone.  Today we traveled to glorious New Jersey where we met up with Paramore at the House of Sound studio where not only did Haley, Zac, Josh, and Jeremy give us a tour, run through some kickass new tracks, but had ME help sing some gang vocals on the record!  CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?!!

Now I don't have much of a singing voice.  And the Untitled has never been to a recording studio before so I have to give credit where it's due:  this was all Paramore's idea.  When we shot with them in Cleveland they asked us if we wanted to come by.  So we did.  Not only are they the nicest, most well-adjusted group around but they are the most generous and giving of their time.  And I love them.  There, I've said it.

When you hear the new stuff, it's going to blow you away.  I'm very lucky I got to hear it.

Paramore = awesome.  No buts about it.

Thank you Paramore for an amazing day and an amazing experience.
Some days your job is just cool.  Today was one of them.

Tomorrow we're off to SouthbySouthwest to interview... everyone.

adios!
