Keith of Halfwayhome's Medical/Fundraiser Update

Posted on June 29, 2005 at 01:19 PM

I got this info today and wanted to pass along to any of you who wanted to reach out and lend a hand. - ProBRUCEr

Dear friends,
This letter is an informative one about a recent tragedy that we hope and pray produces a miracle. The purpose of writing this is to let people all over the world know about what has happened and to ask for your help. If you would, please read this entirely and send it to as many people as you possibly can.

One month ago Keith Watton, who is the drummer for Halfwayhome, fell awkwardly on his neck while trying to climb over a fence in an effort to assist a nearby traffic accident. The fence broke beneath him and the land caused him to break his 4th, 5th, 6th vertebrae and damage his spinal cord.

Since the accident Keith has been paralyzed from the chest down. He has had two successful surgeries to stabalize and straighten his neck. However, there have been several complications such as his lung collapsing, contracting pneumonia, a 103 degree fever, and actually going into cardiac arrest before being resuscitated. A tracheotomy has been put into his neck to help him breath and he has been on a respirator for two weeks. That along with antibiotics have greatly helped his pneumonia and most of the fluid in his lungs is gone.

On a positive note, Keith does have limited mobility in his arms and recently said that he had some tingling in his hands. He has a very long road ahead of him and the support from all of his family and friends has been invaluable.

The doctors have told us repeatedly that there is no way for them speculate on what Keith's condition will be in the future but that only time will tell. He has been at Western Medical Center in CCU since the accident. They have estimated that he will be in the hospital for at least another couple weeks and will likely live in a physical rehabilitation facility for at least a year.

As a result of all this, Keith's family and friends could use all the support that we can get. The amount of people sending their thoughts and prayers has been amazing. Unfortunately, the financial cost of all this is mind blowing. If there is anyway at all that you feel that you can help out we have set up three ways to do so:

1. Halfwayhome's Online Store

Halfwayhome has finally finished their online store at halfwayhomerock.com so please go check it out, buy a shirt or CD, and help out! We know that a lot of peope are downloading CDs these days but if you are going to buy a CD this is a good reason.

2. Tax Deductible Donations

For donations that will be tax decuctible please send a check to: International Leadership 707 Magnolia Dr. Altamonte Springs, FL 32701 Please make checks payable to International Leadership. No percentage will be deducted by International Leadership...every cent will go to Keith!

3. Paypal

You can send money online to Paypal.com The email address to send donations to is Keith@thedeathscene.com. However, if possible we would prefer that a check be sent to International Leadership will be easier and will insure that the entire donation goes to Keith since paypal takes a percentage of every transaction.

Couple of TBS links

Posted on June 26, 2005 at 12:42 PM

As promised on the show, here are a couple of interesting Taking Back Sunday links:

1. Here is a picture of their run-in with Fat Joe here at Fuse a couple weeks ago, as posted on the Daily Download blog.

2. Their "Making Of" documentary for the "Set Phasers To Stun" video is here.

Enjoy!

Cheers,

What do you wonder about Warped?

Posted on June 23, 2005 at 04:30 PM

As Steven mentioned on the blog a few days ago, we'll be heading out to do a mess of shooting on the Vans Warped Tour pretty soon, and I wanted to ask for YOUR help.

You recall the viewer-generated questions we had Bert & Gerard pose to each other back in the Taste of Chaos tour special, right? Well, I'm looking for something similar this time around, except I'd like you to submit general, NON artist specific questions about Warped life. If we've got a few extra seconds with any of the artists after Steven interviews them for the show, we'll ask your Qs and turn them into fun packages for on air and/or online use.

Just to reiterate, I'm asking you to come up with questions that apply to ANY and EVERY band on the tour, not anything directed specifically at a particular performer.

Here are a few examples to seed the clouds for your brainstorm:

  • What's the strangest thing you've seen from the stage at Vans Warped Tour?
  • What is the worst thing you've smelled this summer?
  • Have you ever had a near-death experience at Warped?
  • How do you cope on the road without your boyfriend/girlfriend/husband/wife/kids?

OK, you get the picture. If you have any burning questions that you'd like us to bring along to Cali and ask the artists, either post 'em below or send 'em to stevensshow@fuse.tv.

After all, this is YOUR rock show!

Cheers,
ProBRUCEr

The shirts off our backs!

Posted on June 20, 2005 at 05:36 PM

You viewers never cease to amaze us. We figured some of you would embrace the Shirts For A Cure project as much as we have, but we had no idea you'd respond with such enthusiasm! Herewith are some of your recent comments:
==============================================
So Steven was wearing a Get Up Kids shirt today on the show and mentioned some anout something for a cure.  I thought there was mention of where to find those shirts but can't seem to find them on your website....
A little help please?
Also, thanks for playing GUK and MAE on your show...they are the 2 best bands ;)
Peace out
Chelle
==============================================
I think you have the cooliest show on fuse so far because it's full of some really good rock. I just wanted to ask, on the show you wear some cool t-shirts and I was wondering were you get them from ? By the way you should play some old afi videos that are from their old days.

                               Later

==============================================
I just want to thank you for supporting something such as shirts for a cure. That is very kick ass.  I just ordere the Bouncing Souls, Explosion, and My Chemical Romance shirts.  Thanks for being so hard and honest and playing what we want to hear!
                                                       -From Pat
==============================================

                                                         Stefanie
==============================================

Raoul D
==============================================
I don't know id I'm asking the wrong person but could you please pretty pretty please play me a Rage Against The Machine video! Oh if you only could..... well I would.... iron your entire shirts for a cure collection and give ya a foot rub. PLEASE!!! Oh the desperation!
Heather from West Palm Florida
==============================================
hey steven, ur show kicks ass and of course u 2. i love the shirts that u wear, where do u buy them?
==============================================
hey steven,unlike most people who don't read the credits at the end I do.and I noticed where you get your shirts from and went over to the site and checked it out.I didn't know they had anything like that going on. I think your viewers need to know about that.That would require saying it because sticking it in the credits it's going to cut it.u and I both know attention spans are getting shorter and shorter.so i think it'd b great if you did sometihng like that.
                      thanx (love the show)
                          Claudia
==============================================
Yeah.........I love your shirt that says The Bouncing Souls! I LOVE THE BOUNCING SOULS...............FOEVER AND EVER! Sorry.......oh and i also love that shirt that says "Stretch Arm Strong".
==============================================
hey, just wanted to compliment the circa survive shirt, it's pretty neat.
amy from cypress, texas (it's so hot you don't even know).
==============================================
I loved your My Chemical Romance Shirt! Can't wait for another interview with them!
==============================================
the shirt you wore on yesterday's show (May 25) was pimp-tastic! Combining two great things such as Bleeding Through and shirtsforacure.com is great, more people should definitely know about that site.
- stephanie
houston, texas
==============================================
If you're smart enough to wear a SSE Hot Water Music t-shirt, then you better be smart enough to play a Hot Water Music video on your show.  Let the people see "Remedy"!!!
Matt S. from Sacramento, CA
==============================================
Hey steve, just wanted to let you know the show rocks, And I've decided that Imma only wear the shirts for a cure T-shirts from now on. Cancer is evil and theres no better way to spend my blue collar bucks than battling a F**ked up disease. -David in El Paso TX
==============================================
For anyone who hasn't been following the frequent on-air mentions or blog posts, the Shirts For A Cure project is a fundraiser for cancer charity Syrentha Savio Endowment, which provides funding to those suffering under the financial and spiritual weight of their illness. The whole rock show crew strongly supports the work they do, and a while back, Steven had the awesome idea of buying the entire line to wear on air and help spread the word. More than 30 awesome bands have donated exclusive t-shirt designs to the project, so get your happy ass over to www.shirtsforacure.com to browse the selection, order your own, and help make a difference!
Cheers,
ProBRUCEr

Couple things

Posted on June 17, 2005 at 06:48 PM

Hey kids, Steven here.  Just had a couple thoughts I wanted to share with you before the weekend begins.

1.  Thanks for watching.  Sound corny, but I'm serious.  You guys make us what we are.  The show continues to do well and we owe it all to you.  So, from the bottom of my heart.  Thank You.

2.  We'll be out and about on the Vans Warped Tour in California for a bunch of dates.  If you see us, please say hi.  We're very fan friendly.  You might even catch us in the audience.  If you're looking for me, try the stages Strike Anywhere and the Explosion are playing.  Seriously, say hey.

Have a great weekend everyone!  My weekend plans?  Absolutely nothing.

Be well.

Steven

I guess this vegetarian wasn't sexy enough to make the cut...

Posted on June 17, 2005 at 12:02 AM

Peta2 is doing their annual poll of the World's Sexiest Vegetarians, and there are a LOT of rock folks in the mix, including some sexy, sexy dudes from:

Anti Flag, Cave In, Story of the Year, Phantom Planet, Fall Out Boy, Midtown, Taking Back Sunday, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Good Charlotte, Incubus, S.T.U.N., Rise Against, Shadows Fall, Kill Your Idols, Hawthorne Heights, Terror, The Mars Volta, Silverchair, Blur, Boys Night Out, Coldplay, Death Cab For Cutie, Remembering Never, International Noise Conspiracy, Further Seems Forever, New Found Glory, Converge, The Kills, The Used, Gratitude, Goldfinger, Blood Brothers, The Mountain Goats, Most Precious Blood, Dillinger Escape Plan, Alkaline Trio, The Fiery Furnaces, Green Day, Killswitch Engage, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Silverstein, Yellowcard, System of a Down, Sum 41, Radiohead, and Atreyu.

Oh yeah, and there's a category for chicks too! It's a tough decision, since you can only vote for one male and one female.

One glaring omission from their list that I'm sure many of you will agree with: Frank Iero from My Chemical Romance. Frank's the sole veg in the band, who was nice enough to offer me "anything in the fridge labeled 'Frank'" when Steven and I caught a ride on their bus out on Taste of Chaos one night. C'mon, peta2, give Frank some purty props!

Who did I vote for? I'll let you figure it out with these clues: one only uses their last name, and one doesn't at all. Go voice your opinion at www.peta2.com [click "Sexy Veg Poll" right above the sign-up for e-news].

Cheers,
ProBRUCEr

We keep our promises!

Posted on June 10, 2005 at 03:05 PM

Well, at least we do EVENTUALLY...

As we've mentioned on air a few times, from this very moment through August 1, you can hit us up at fuse.tv/steven to get your very own MP3s of the first songs performed in the SURS studio: "No Revolution" & "Here I Am" from The Explosion!

The files are a limited time offer in more ways than one: you can only pull them down until August 1, but they're also encoded with DRM (Digital Rights Management) technology, so that they will self-delete from your system 30 days after they're downloaded. This also means no burns and no transfers, so it really is for YOU and JUST for you!

Just another freebie from us to you, thanks to The Explosion (and the folks at Virgin Records who signed off on the deal)! Download, and enjoy!

Cheers,
ProBRUCEr

Ahoy kids, Captain Steven here and mind you, I don't have a parrot, I do have a cat.  And she is awesome.

And now the blog!

First and foremost my heart goes out to Andrew.  It's a terrible thing but he's part of a very pro-active community so he couldn't be in better hands.  I wish him all the best.

Secondly, just read a request by Chris and Dustin who asked us SURS folks to please stop playing MCR, Senses Fail and Hawthorne Heights day after day after day and give some other bands a chance.  Well, gentlemen, we love those three groups, love them lots, and like yourselves requesting other artists (all of which we've played by the by, 'cept for Glasseater) we receive mad crazy amounts of requests for My Chem, Senses, and Hawthorne.  We aims to please and will continue to do so BUT (there's always a but and usually in my face) we can't please everyone.   Though we try and appreciate those taking the time to talk to us.  Rest assured we have all kinds of videos to pepper the "hits" with. Thanks for watching you guys and making your voices heard.  We appreciate it a lot.

Thirdly, not sure if it's out yet but we've got a photo in Blender magazine.  Ya'll remember the pic, Jeph from the Used in his birthday suit except for a point pineapple on over his nadolas joining My Chemical Romance for a photo shoot in Florida during the Taste of Chaos tour.

Welp, it seems this pic has done made the rounds throughout the netherverse, even as far away as Australia.  Filthy ex-prisoners them.   I'm glad it's getting around but I sure wish we had stamped it with the show's name.  Alas, well, we know where it comes from.

Heaven.

Be well my droogs.

Until then and always...
