A quick bit o' behind the scenes...

Posted on March 30, 2005 at 07:19 PM

Those of you who watched today's show know that The Cult's "She Sells Sanctuary" was our classic clip du jour.

You may have also noticed a little quirk in Steven's outro to the video: "Ian Astbury...the only man who could’ve even POSSIBLY filled in for Jim Morrison on the 21st century version of The Doors. Whatever!"

In case any of you were wondering what that seeming contradiction was all about: Steven and I co-author SURS. Usually we really dig what the other puts into the TelePrompter. And sometimes we don't...like when I wrote in that superlative about Mr. Astbury. In those moments, Steven gives a little twitch of disagreement. Or a "Whatever!"

It doesn't happen that often, but I think it's pretty funny when it does. Look for it!

And for you cultish Cult fans: I don't think for a moment that Steven meant any disrespect! I think he just thought Weiland was way better as a Jim Morrisson replacement. But I'm sure he can tell you all about that concert experience in another blog post. Can't you, Steven?

*wink*
PS - I still think Ian Astbury is way more badass than Scott Weiland. And he's got FAR better hair.

South By South This

Posted on March 21, 2005 at 11:16 AM

Fine.  So I didn't go to South By Southwest.  I really wanted to but I had other Fuse obligations (like hosting 7th Ave Drop with Queens of the Stone Age - on tomorrow 7 PM, check it out.)

Now althought I wasn't in glorious Austin, Texas for all the rock festivities I did see one of the featured bands  not too long ago.  They are The Loved Ones and  are on Jade Tree Records and they are AWESOME.   I saw them in DC a little over a week ago and was blown away.  If you like Alkaline Trio, Green Day, and the immortal Jawbreaker check this puppies out.  131_3189

131_3194

131_3185

This is what their record looks likeB0007lpja801lzzzzzzz

go to their website for some cool downloads http://thelovedonesband.com/, oh, and go BUY THE RECORD.   I can't get enough of it.  It's an amazing EP.  I want more.

There are many cool things happening in the world of the Untitled Rock Show de Steven.  First and foremost we are very soon going to be announcing the final name for the shoo.  Boy will all of you be surprised.  Seriously.  You will.  No sarcasm here.  Nuh-uh.  Secondly, well, just keep watching.

Oh, and here's a picture of someone more punk than any of us.  131_3167

Explosion hat, CBGB's shirt, red Chuck's, and just turned two.  Take that.  Until then and always...

Take Action Tour & Other Great Deeds

Posted on March 20, 2005 at 06:03 PM

We had a blast when JT & Eron from Hawthorne Heights and Tim & Marko from Sugarcult came by the studio to hang and chat about the recently-wrapped Take Action Tour. The awesome folks behind Take Action, Hopeless/Sub City Records, and Hurley have raised over $200,000 for the National Hopeline Network/1-800-SUICIDE over the years, and we're always psyched to help promote the charity work of our brothers and sisters in rock!

If you haven't picked up all the Plea For Peace/Take Action compilations at your local record shop or at Warped Tour, you should definitely order 'em (for a VERY reasonable price) at www.takeactiontour.com, where you can also get some other cool merch from the tours!

Speaking of "Plea For Peace," there's a charity tour of a different kind that you might be able to get involved with this fall, benefiting a youth center in San Jose. Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio, Neil & Chris from The Lawrence Arms, and a bunch of their musical and charitable friends are undertaking a month-long bike trek from Settle to Long Beach, with concert stops in Oympia, Portland, Eugene, Eureka, Santa Rosa/Petaluma, San Francisco, Santa Cruz, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Los Angeles. Check out the tentative schedule and find out how you can get involved at www.pleaforpeace.com.

Keep rocking, and keep caring!

Epitourage

Posted on March 8, 2005 at 01:22 PM

So here we are again kids, Rockin' and Rollin' and what not.  First off thanks to everyone on our MySpace and all those who email the show.  It's Untitled Rocktacular you're doing that.  We love each and everyone one of you and would love to kiss you all.  With tongue even.

This weekend we were s'posed to be shooting the EpitaphTour in New Jersey this weekend at the Starland Ballroom.  But that didn't work out.  Sorry Jerseyians, next time.

So yesterday we were at Irving Plaza talking with Motion City Soundtrack,  131_3158From First to Last, 131_3156Scatter the Ashes,131_3157 and Matchbook Romance, who I forgot to take a picture of but that's okay, they can take it.

All for now.  Until then and always...

Taste O'Jersey

Posted on March 1, 2005 at 11:30 AM

For those of you who did not attend this past Saturday's Taste of Chaos show in glorious Asbury Park, New Jersey, I feel for you.  I've missed my share of big shows and it hurts.  Hurts even worse when someone who was there tells you how awesome it was, and not to be that person, but it was AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!

We were there bright and early, us being the Trio as proBrucer likes to call us.  Oh, and we look like this:128_2885

We were shooting for the upcoming Fuse Taste of Chaos special where we go behind the scenes to the true essence that is TOC.  What we do is hang out on tour buses, eat crappy food, and hassle bands who are already way too nice to us.  Seriously, if another member of My Chem offers me water I'm going to lose my mind.  They are so damned polite.  Love those guys.  So good to us.

All the bands were incredible.  My Chem tore it up as always, opening with "I'm Not Okay," which goes to show how professional a band they are.  The Used were a volcanic eruption on stage.  Got some good shots of Bert and a great one of Jeph on the amps.  131_3117

131_3116

Now somebody has already asked about the "Under Pressure" cover.  For those of you who don't know, "Under Pressure" is a song by Queen and David Bowie and is amazing on it's own and My Chemical Romance and the Used recorded a cover of it and will be releasing it soon to benefit the Tsunami Relief Effort.  Despite that in itself being cool, the cover is amazing and once released is going to blow up.  We were lucky enough to hear the recorded version but the crowd at Convention Hall were lucky enough to see it live.

131_3130 So, what happened is Branden hops off his kit and Bob from My Chem gets on.  Guitar stacks are pushed onstage and Ray and Frankie move into position.  Then Bert and Gerard walk out and rock ensues.  131_3135 It was pretty damn cool.  If you're going to any of the rest of the TOC dates hope an pray they do it again.  It's not worth missing.  Trust me.  Until then and always...
