Just saw this

Posted on February 25, 2005 at 12:56 PM

Forgive me, I am new to the world of blogging.  Here's a comment I received and would love to resond to.

Chances are you won't reply to this or view this. But if you do, could you tell me why -- or ask the powers that be to tell me why -- Fuse has yet to one-up MTV2 by airing The Dive at a longer time than your rival airs Subterranean? There's so much diversity in alternative music. Emo and metal are just so damn redundant [the lead singers all seem to sing just a like]. Play some experimental rock! [Sonic Youth, Yo!] Just because the kids are head over heels in love with pop music, does not necessarily mean that they won't appreciate art produced by real progressive artists.

And another thing, there's more to alternative music than Postal Service.

Chris, I couldn't agree with you more.  I love the Dive.  I was lucky enough to be involved in it's creation and am very happy it's on.  It would be great for the show to be an hour.  It would be great for this show to be an hour.  I know producer Bruce would love, give us a lot more time for interviews.

But speaking of time, these things take time.  The fact the Dive is on the air is a phenomena unto itself.  You know as well as I do how hard it is to hear half the bands you like even on the radio and television is no different.  For my money, I long for the days of 120 Minutes (not to mention our competitors but damn that was a good show) and even pitched a two version of the Dive called the Deep End to air, that's right, Sunday nights from 11 to 1 AM.   Course it didn't happen but how cool would that be?

No one will ever be truly happy with all the videos we play but I'm very happy a Dive fan is watching our show.  I hope you enjoy the classic video clips we throw in at the end and I know we do have some Sonic Youth.  Any suggestions?  I vote for 100%.  Maybe their cover of Mission to Burma's "That's When I Reach for My Revolver."  Not sure if they made a video for that, but they should have.

Thank you very much for watching and for commenting on our blog, Chris.  Means the world to us.

Sincerely,

Steven

Posted on February 25, 2005 at 12:41 PM

We're heading out to mythological Asbury Park New Jersey for more Taste of Chaos but to whet your appetite here's some more pics.  Enjoy!129_2936 129_2987 128_2875

Now what we got here is Mr. Gerard from My Chem having a chat with Mr. Bert from the Used, a photo op with My Chem and slightly chilly bass player from the Used (Jeph and his pineapple - ah young love,) and some TV idiot with Underoath.

See you all tomorrow in Jersey.

129_2934 zup kids, Steven here, back from TOC in FLA.   Such fun was had and you'll see all of it starting next week on the Untitled Rock Show.  It was madness, Bert from the Used and dog poo, Gerard showing me how to get dressed like a rock star (look for the first appearance of My Chemical Steven - that's right,) and all kinds of silliness here, take a look:129_2986

On the road with "Taste of Chaos"

Posted on February 23, 2005 at 02:35 AM

What a freakin' amazing holiday weekend our team had over President's Day! Steven, Rachel, and I flew down to Orlando on Thursday to shoot Steven's Untitled Rock Show on the first three dates of the first ever Taste of Chaos tour: Friday in Orlando, Saturday in Pompano Beach, and Sunday in Jacksonville! Since the moment we got back, we've been working our asses off to edit all the awesome material into TWO FULL WEEKS of shows, plus a Taste of Chaos tour special! Our special on-tour episodes begin next Monday, 2/28 so mark those calendars!

We'll be talking to The Used, My Chemical Romance, Senses Fail, Killswitch Engage, Underoath, A Static Lullaby, Bleed The Dream, and Opiate For The Masses while playing all their great videos. In week two, we'll let the main stage artists pick some of their favorite classic clips, including some bands that both Steven and I list among our favorites!

It was an amazing time, and we've got great stories, interviews, and pictures to share on air, at www.fuse.tv/tasteofchaos, and here on the blog over the coming days and weeks, so stay tuned! To pique your interest, here are a few keywords: band nudity, on-stage wedding, drunk bus, law trouble, Steven in makeup, dog poop, hot tunes, cool dudes.

You're gonna love it. Trust us. See you at 4:00 and 9:00 every damn day!

ROCK!

Bruce

Ch-Ch-Check it out

Posted on February 11, 2005 at 01:30 PM

Why hello there internet friends.  I’m Rachel, the third member of the Steven’s Untitled Rock Show triumvirate. Being the humanitarian that I am, I thought I’d share with you several of my personal favorite up-and-coming musicians.  If you enjoy the videos we play on SURS, I think you’ll be tickled pink by some of these smaller but no less enjoyable artists. Now I am not attempting to insult your musical intelligence by assuming that you are unaware of all of these stellar bands, but let’s be honest with ourselves here, the best way to spread the musical wealth is through word of mouth…

So here is mine…

Army of Me

I saw these gentlemen play two nights ago, and haven’t listened to anything else since.  Their sound and vocals are distinctly unique, and with lyrics like, “If at first you don’t succeed, just give up, get on your knees, cuz for what you did to me, you deserve to bleed,” you’ll fall in love at first listen. And I mean love, not just lust.

Nightmare of You

If you loved the Movielife, listen.  If you hated the Movielife, please listen.  Mr. Reilly of the aforementioned outfit has lost all memory of power chords and is currently recording an album with his new partners in crime that (from what I hear) will sound like Blondie meets The Smiths with a side of Robert Smith. Yummy!

I am the Avalanche

And you thought you were sad when they broke up, but from the ashes of the Movielife rose not one, but two stellar bands!  Think shredding guitars and heavier vocals.  Verrrrrrry good.

Like Yesterday

Matt from TBS plays bass with these guys, but trust me, this is no side project.  I haven’t been more impressed by anyone’s vocals or stage presence in long time. They have an EP coming out this April on Bandha Records, but there are streams you can check out via myspace as well as on their site.

Blackpool

Lights

Former Get Up Kid + a Belle (i.e. The Belles) + former Ultimate Fakebooker = Blackpool Lights.  Now I was never a big fan of algebra, but that is one equation I actually enjoy.  Do the math.  You’ll get an A. I promise.

Moving Units

If you’re into The Strokes, Interpol, Killers, Franz Ferdinand scene, you should totally check these boys out.  Not to throw another lyric in your face, but “it’s easy to feel unfaithful – when you’re going to be anyway.”  Wow.

Safety in Numbers

Safety in #s is Andy Jackson’s (think Hot Rod Circuit) side band out of the dirty south (think

Alabama

).  They don’t have a website or a myspace profile (yeah, I agree they need to get with the internet program here), but you can get tour dates via Triple Crown Records, who released their two albums or from the Hot Rod Circuit website.  And, if you’re not familiar with Hot Rod, then you’ll get an additional (and very pleasant) surprise!

Lola Ray

Last but not least, these guys are based out of NYC and signed to Good Charlotte’s label DC Flag.  Their album was recorded quite a while ago so it differs from their live performance, but they have this cool Hot Hot Heat vibe going and it definitely works.  Plus, they pretty much have the coolest website. Before you check it out you might want to visit the shooting range…Just a suggestion.

Hit the road, Jack! And Steven...and Rachel...and Bruce

Posted on February 10, 2005 at 09:41 PM

Yee-haw! We're just about fit to burst with excitement while planning our next field episodes of "Steven's Untitled Rock Show!" So far, we've only shot two shows outside the studio--both at the tsunami relief benefit mentioned earlier on the Untitled Rock Blog.

We've got a LOT more coming up from the road, including two of the most exciting tours this spring!

First up is the Taste of Chaos, with The Used, My Chemical Romance, Senses Fail, Killswitch Engage, A Static Lullaby, Saosin, Underoath, and more! You can check out our very own channel headquarters for the Taste of Chaos at www.fuse.tv/tasteofchaos, and then visit their official site at www.tasteofchaos.com.

After we wrap up all that (and our guest episodes with Strike Anywhere, Kasabian and one Mr. Mark Hoppus), we'll be rocking out with Matchbook Romance, Motion City Soundtrack, From First To Last, The Matches, and/or Scatter The Ashes on the Epitaph Tour! Check out their HQ at www.epitaphtour.epitaph.com, and stay tuned to the show, the site, and the blog for more details!

It's going to be an exciting spring, friends! We can't wait to spend it with you and with the awesome bands we'll be talking to SOON!

Rock And/Or Roll

Posted on February 10, 2005 at 11:29 AM

Hello and good morning my fine rock compatriots.  Not much new to report as we're gearing up for the Taste of Chaos tour.  We'll be rocking and/or rolling with the Used and My Chemical Romance and all the bands on the tour.  Should be a rollicking good time.  We've been asking on the show for questions you'd like us to ask any of the bands so get to it!  We might use one of them.  That is all for now.  Further rock bulletins as events warrant.

Until then and always...

Whuzup kids!  Steven here and blogging like the blog fiend I am.  It's blogtastic.  I just wanted to take a minute to thank everyone for all the support they've given the show.  We love it and we're glad you love it too.

Don't miss our first live performance tomorrow!  The Explosion who are off the heezy fer sheezy.  Seriously, it's sick.

Also, cool ass show alert.  If you're in the New York area this Saturday most definitely go by the Knitting Factory to check out Strike Anywhere, None More Black, the Loved Ones, and the Unseen.  Go!  I shan't be there as I have to work (bollocks) but somebody go and report back.

All for now.  More to come.

Until then and always...
