You Make A Dead Man What?!?

Rollingstones_halftimeweb

The Rolling Stones were censored during their halftime performance at the Super Bowl XL in Detroit on Sunday. TV censors deemed two lyrics too sexually explicit to be broadcast and they were cut from the three-song show.

Start Me Up and Rough Justice were subject to censorship, while (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction was left intact.

In 2004, Janet Jackson caused outrage in the US when a "wardrobe malfunction" exposed her right breast during a routine with Justin Timberlake.

This year TV network ABC broadcast the Super Bowl with a five-second tape delay and a sellout crowd of 65,000 people watched the Rolling Stones, led by 62-year-old Mick Jagger.

Say what you will about the Stones, but I am somewhat fascinated that a 62 year-old man's lyrics were censored. Rock n' roll never dies. And those lyrics?

Start Me Up:
You, you, you make a grown man cry
You, you make a dead man c***

Rough Justice:
One time you were my baby chicken
Now you've grown into a fox
And once upon a time I was your little rooster
Am I just one of your c****?

Nintendo World Opens in Manhattan

And naturally, Fuse was there! The opening party was at the new store in Rockefeller Center on Thursday, May 12. Seen at the party: kids of famous mobsters, and former Fuse star Dennis Da Menace! Check out these pics (thanks, Julien!):

The Brand New Sony PSP

It is a testament to the sheer awesomeness that is the brand new Sony PSP that two people with desks within ten feet of the Fuseblog desk were up at the crack of dawn to wait on a long line just for the chance to fork over 250 somewhat hardearned smackers for said gadget. First impressions? It's !#$@ing gorgeous and the screen itself is worth the money. But enough talkin', let's start lookin':

Below: This was the line outside of Best Buy on 23rd Street in Manhattan. If we could bottle the anticipation, etc...

Below: We cleaned off a desk so we could show you the Gadget, and its accompanying ephemera...

Get Your Gang On

GTA: San Andreas, the latest from those subversive people at Rockstar Games, hits today. Can't wait to get the hell out of here to initiate a little gang violence.

Nintendo's New Handjob

DsNintendo has announced pricing and release date for its new DS handheld gaming machine.

You'll be able to pick up a DS for $150 on Nov. 21, actually a week before it hits stores in Japan.

So the DS looks somewhat interesting and the fact that it's coming up before the holidays for $150 means they'll probably sell a bunch of these, but all I really want is a PSP.

Someone Shrunk the PS2

Ps3Sony has decided that what we all need is a slimmed down PS2, so they've shrunk the black box and included an ethernet connection and now you can take your PS2 with you wherever you go, at least until the PSP comes out.

All fine and dandy, but the greatest thing they did was FINALLY place the power switch on the front of the machine rather than the back.

The new PS2 is so skinny that I'm afraid it may wind up in rehab with Mary Kate or Ashley or whichever Olsen doesn't want to eat this week.

Mario in Playgirl?

Playboyvidgame2Playboy readers in October may get a surprise (or, something else) when they open up the centerfold and realize that the object of their affection is really just a bunch of polygons.

The magazine is breaking new ground this fall by featuring characters from videogames as Playboy pictorial fodder, and, yes, that means that they will be naked.

First up is the half-human, half-vampire Blood Rayne (from the game of the same name). Keep your "what does she suck besides blood" comments to yourself.

The spread is part of five-page section entitled, "Gaming Grows Up," and also features the buxom Luba Licious (from the upcoming Leisure Suit Larry game) in a full-frontal, two-page pullout (no pun intended).

It's a bit of a risk for both Playboy and the videogames industry. Will computer-generated babes become the masturbatory fantasies they envision? I wouldn't be surprised a bit.

Joystick Jockeys

igameslogoNow that Bush and Cheney and all those other Republicans have left NY, the city braces for an onslaught of another passionate, large group of people that require far less security - gamers.

That's right, gamers. This weekend, NYC's Hammerstein Ballroom plays host to its first major videogames show, the iGames Expo 2004. The event runs from Sept. 10-12, and unlike game shows such as E3, this one's open to the public. Grab all the info you need at www.igamesexpo.com.

This combination trade show/tournament event will give gamers the chance to get their paws on some great stuff that hasn't even been released yet, such as Star Wars Battlefront, Dark Age of Camelot, Guilty Gear Isuka and Iron Phoenix, a new online for Xbox, 3D fighting game that's still six months from release!

Halo fans waiting patiently (or impatiently) for Halo 2 can warm up their thumbs with a Halo tournament featuring prizes of $10,000 cash and $5,000 in gear.

Besides tons of console games, the event will feature one of the largest LAN parties ever created for amateur players.

So if you live in NYC and you're remotely interested in games and gaming, get yourself over to the Hammerstein Ballroom this weekend.

Green with Envy

greenconsole.jpgMicrosoft recently announced that the translucent green version of the Xbox will arrive in the U.S on April 13. The unit had previously only been available in Europe.

The limited edition (only 200,000) Xbox will be bundled with the brightest star in Microsoft's gaming universe, Halo, and also include a special Halo jeweled controller, all for $169.

Now if it had only been Halo 2 included in the bundle...

Steady with that Scalpel, Mario

gta3_01.jpg
A recent study by the Beth Israel Medical Center has found that doctors who play videogames at least three hours a week make about 37% fewer mistakes in surgery than doctors who don't, and perform 27% faster.

So the next time you see a surgeon putting down the controller and picking up a scalpel, don't be alarmed. How long will it be before Mario Bros. and Grand Theft Auto become required medical school curriculum?
