Monday morning was a little more chaotic than usual at the Madison Square Garden/Penn Station complex in New York today as JAY-Z and a host of government luminaries held a press conference to officially announce Answer The Call, a concert being held on September 11 to benefit the New York Police and Fire Widows and Childrens' Benefit Fund.
The event was hosted by former Def Jam exec and hip-hop visionary, philanthropist and overachiever Kevin Liles, who introduced a series of speakers that included New York Governor David Patterson, FDNY Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta, Manhattan borough President Scott Stringer, as well as Mike Baire, president of Madison Square Garden Media. Each spoke for a few minutes, relating memories of 9/11, recalling the courage of those first responders, and in the case of Commissioner Scoppetta, noting that while his own musical tastes might skew closer to Sinatra than Carter, his kids have assured him that he'll enjoy JAY-Z's show.
So: the countdown to the 9pm, September 11th show live from Madison Square Garden begins NOW. The broadcast will be commercial free. And the question on everyone's mind: will there be special guests? JAY-Z says to expect them, but as for further info, he "doesn't want to give too much away..."
A few photos from this morning's press conference below. And much more JAY-Z here.

It's happened before—Noel Gallagher storming off of a tour, fed up with the antics of brother Liam. But could this be the real deal? Here is the statement that appears on both Oasis's official site and their MySpace:
28 August 2009
"It's
with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis
tonight. People will write and say what they like, but I simply could
not go on working with Liam a day longer.
"Apologies to all the people who bought tickets for the shows in Paris, Konstanz and Milan."
Could this be it? "Sing a sad song..."

Nine Inch Nails are about a week into their Wave Goodbye tour, in which the seminal inudtrial rockers are waving goodbye (Trent says) to the touring machine. They may be back, but not on a big scale.
The four shows that took place this week at New York clubs were by all reports spectacular, featuring a full performance of The Downward Spiral one night, and appearances by Bauhaus frontman Peter Murphy at two others.
So you'd like to go, right? Well, if you're in Chicago, you might be interested in this tweet that the NIN twitter sent out a few minutes after 1p Central:
We have three
pairs of tickets to give away for tonight's show in Chicago. Leo will
be around the city this afternoon. More details shortly.
Follow, people, follow! And you just might make it into the Aragon Ballroom tonight.

Love the series. I'm a producer and Hip Hop fanatic working independently in Miami, and would love to land a gig such as yours one day. Keep up the quality, and continue to represent the culture at its best. www.vimeo.com/douglasforte
