Well damn. No word on why she's doing this now, but Courtney Love plans on selling most of Kurt Cobain's belongings, and donating some of the dough to charity. Seems she's tired of the stuff after thirteen years. Anyway, she's keeping the good stuff, IE a guitar and the lyrics to Smells Like Teen Spirit.
Courtney Love, widow of Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain, says she plans to sell most of his belongings.
“I’m going to have a Christie’s auction,” Love, 42, tells AOL music Web site Spinner.com. “(My house) is like a mausoleum.”
Love and Cobain wed in 1992 and had a daughter, Frances Bean, that year. Cobain committed suicide in 1994.
“My daughter doesn’t need to inherit a giant ... bag full of flannel ... shirts,” says Love, former frontwoman of the rock band Hole. “A sweater, a guitar and the lyrics to ‘(Smells Like) Teen Spirit’ — that’s what my daughter gets. And the rest of it we’ll just ... sell.”
No date has been set for the auction, AOL publicist Kurt Patat said Monday.
Love, whose upcoming album is titled, “Nobody’s Daughter,” says friends support the idea.
“Everyone’s been positive and behind me on it,” she says. “We’ll make a lot of money and give a bunch of it to charity.”
She’ll have a chance to move on from Cobain, too.
“I still wear his pajamas to bed. How am I ever going to go form another relationship in my lifetime wearing Kurt’s pajamas?”

The big musical happening over the weekend, of course, was the Coachella festival out in the California desert. Though the rock was brought by many a reunited band, including Crowded House (yes!) and the Jesus And Mary Chain, it was the first appearance in seven years by Rage Against The Machine that the crowd was most anticipating. Oh to have been there and heard those magical words We are Rage Against The Machine from Los Angeles, California.
Of course, rumor has it that Audioslave's dissolution can be traced to Chris Cornell catching wind of this reunion. Is the world a better place with Rage? Yes. Is the world a better place without Audioslave. Oh heck yes.
On Sunday, their full-throttle set included "People of the Sun,” “Bombtrack,” Bullet in the Head,” and “Know Your Enemy,” all within 30 minutes of taking the Coachella Stage.
The band followed with "Rodeo” and “Guerilla Radio,” as de la Rocha rapped to the crowd, “It has to start somewhere, it has to start sometime."
The crowd answered with a question: "What better place then here, what better time then now?”
Usually stone-faced, intense performer, de la Rocha smiled broadly during “Sleep Now in the Fire,” while Morello ended the song by jumping on a speaker and raising his fist in the air.

New York City is going to the dogs. Well, at least the East Village is: Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz has teamed up with members of Gym Class Heroes and The Academy Is... to open a bar in New York City's hip (make that formerly hip) East Village. Wentz claims that the place will be a chill, unpretentious place. I'll believe that when I see that. If there's one thing that famous people loathe, it's hanging out with regular people like you and me, and Fall Out Boy fans, in that order. Most likely, this will be some crappy place that Wentz hangs out at once in awhile - locking the doors while he's there, of course, unless you're a hot chick - then forgets about, then remains blissfully unaware of as it slides into obscurity and neglect. Thanks for coming to New York, Pete. Now get out.
Fall Out Boy frontman Pete Wentz has teamed up with members of Gym Class Heroes and The Academy Is... to open their own bar in New York City.
Speaking to New York Magazine, Wentz revealed the motivation behind his endeavor is a response to the city's current celebrity nightlife scene.
He said: "When I go to New York I always have to pick between crappy clubs and then call the promoter ahead of time and then still get hassled at the door and get stuffed into some cramped stupid VIP section and hear bad techno."
The bar, which will be called Angels & Kings, is set to be the one the least pretentious places in the city, a place where Wentz and his pals can hang out.
"Everyone I roll with is into Goonies," he said, "I want it to be like Shredder's hangout in 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2'."
And its décor will include mugshots and Fall Out Boy-branded drinks specials.
He revealed: "We have this awesome Sid Vicious mug shot where you can tell he's just like a f*cked-up kid, like everyone had him pegged wrong. It speaks to me. We have a couple of Fall Out-based ideas for drinks. There's this song called 'Where Is Your Boy Tonight' so I was thinking we could have a 'Where Is Your Beer' special night."
Angels & Kings is scheduled to open on April 30.

Good new for people who love good bands, and good news (good gravy): Radiohead are in the studio. Which means they are making new music. According to a post by Thom Yorke on their quite cool blog, Radiohead have been recording. Apparently, a new album will be out this year. Tracks will no doubt include new material debuted at last summer's US shows, including 15 Step, a sample of which can be found at same site. From Launch:
Radiohead have given an update of their progress on their new album.
As previously reported, the band posted a sample of song "15 Step" on a section of their official site deadairpsace.com recently.
Posting on their site, singer Thom Yorke wrote: "Radiohead starts up again having finally caught up on some sleep next week. I have a cd of what we;'ve been up to...and you haven't.Yet. (sorry) I must listen to it, after taking an ear break that always makes me nervous. Hope you're well."
The follow-up to 2003's Hail To The Thief is expected sometime in 2007.
The band has just re-released Com Lag (2 2=5), a rare Japanese EP from 2004.

There seems to be no end to the controversy/national-debate/talking points generated by Imus/Ho-gate. Hip-hop legend and mogul Russell Simmons, a not uninfluential person, and Benjamin Chavis, Simmons' co-chair at the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network, have called for the elimination of the words bitch, ho and the n-word from the recording industry. The move is somewhat of a surprise given the ubiquity of those words in hip-hop recordings, as well as the fact that Simmons and Chavis held a different opinion the day after Imus was fired. At that time, Simmons and Chavis argued against censorship of artistic expression. Any debate encompassing offensive language and/or imagery as well as freedom of artistic expression is a difficult one - and one with many arguments, positives and negatives.
Prominent hip-hop executive Russell Simmons on Monday recommended eliminating the words "bitch," "ho" and the N-word from the recording industry, considering them "extreme curse words."
"We recommend that the recording and broadcast industries voluntarily remove/bleep/delete the misogynistic words 'bitch' and 'ho' and the racially offensive [N-word]," Simmons and Benjamin Chavis, co-chairmen of the advocacy group Hip-Hop Summit Action Network, said in a statement.
"These three words should be considered with the same objections to obscenity as 'extreme curse words'," it said.
Today's statement was a switch from the stance taken by Simmons and Chavis on April 13th, a day after Imus' show was canceled, in which they said offensive references in hip-hop "may be uncomfortable for some to hear, but our job is not to silence or censor that expression."
U.S. black leaders such as Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson have led the charge to suppress offensive words while many artists have argued for freedom of expression. New York City declared a symbolic moratorium on the so-called 'N-word' in February.
"Our internal discussions with industry leaders are not about censorship. Our discussions are about the corporate social responsibility of the industry to voluntarily show respect to African-Americans and other people of color, African -American women and to all women in lyrics and images," the statement from Simmons and Chavis said today.
The network recommended the formation of a Coalition on Broadcast Standards that would consist of leading executives from music, radio and television.

But not that way. Sheryl Crow, the Santa Monica Boulevard-strolling star, and Karl Rove, the brains
of the Bush Administraation, faced off on Saturday night at the White House Correspondents Association Dinner. Crow and Laurie David, wife of Larry David and complete hottie, have been on a global warming awareness tour that culminated in Saturday evening's high-powered event. And sparks ensued...
On the eve of Earth Day, Crow and "Inconvenient Truth" producer David walked over to the presidential adviser's table at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner Saturday night at the Washington Hilton.
Their differences on global warming quickly bubbled over, the Washington Post reported Sunday.
"I am floored by what I just experienced with Karl Rove," David said later. "I went over to him and said, I urge you to take a new look at global warming. He went zero to 100 with me. ... I've never had anyone be so rude."
Rove said: "She came over to insult me and she succeeded."
As the debate intensified, Crow tried to calm things down but was drawn into the debate with Rove instead.
"You work for me," she told Rove, according to the Post column "The Reliable Source."
"No," was his response. "I work for the American people."
Heather Lylis, a spokeswoman for Crow and David's global warming tour, said Sunday that Crow's response for Rove was: "Yes, and I'm an American citizen."

In case you missed fascinating bit of news from the end of last week, Ozzy wife/manager/svengali Sharon Osbourne publically announced her wish that Queens Of The Stone Age frontman Josh Homme gets syphilis and also dies. She also fervently hopes that his penis falls off so that his mother can eat it. It was unclear whether Sharon longed for the disempenising to occur before or after death. FYI, this all came about because Homme criticized Ozzfest and that festival's treatment of bands. He didn't say anything about syphilis, however.
Sharon Osbourne has said she hopes Queen Of The Stone Age frontman Josh Homme "gets syphilis and dies" after he criticised her husband Ozzy's Ozzfest tour.
Homme responded to a comment in this month's Blender magazine made about his bands decision to never take part in Ozzfest again because "they treat the bands like sh*t."
Now Sharon, who created the Ozzfest tour in 1996, has responded with the following statement: "I hope he gets syphilis and dies. I hope his d*ck f**kin' falls off so his mother can eat it."
Queens Of The Stone Age release their new album Era Vulgaris in June.

In the latest chapter of The Britney Spears Saga (available soon on DVD), our favorite pop tart has up and blamed all of her recent misadventures on some alleged unspectacular advice from now ex-manager Larry Rudolph. Probably not a smart move, as Brit has just signed a big contract with him. Not to mention the fact that he's not responsible for Britney shaving her head, getting a divorce and flashing her privates. Wait, could he be? Nah.
Also note that Britney has hired the same spokesperson used by Lindsay Lohan. Nice.
Britney Spears must be mistaking herself with some kind of puppet if we are to listen to the latest rumors: she’s fired her manager because he got her into partying.
According to anonymous sources, the pop princess has fired her manager, Larry Rudolph, the man who kept us up to date on her going-ins and coming-outs of rehab.
It seems Britney had only re-hired Rudolph in November after she filed for divorce from husband Kevin Federline. And now that the divorce is almost final, no more Rudolph?
She is said to blame the music mogul for a string of recent career mistakes (shaving her head in front of paparazzi, getting a new tattoo, entering a rehabilitation clinic, sparking lots of nonsensical rumors about her emotional balance).
A source told a US newspaper: “There may be legal ramifications as she just signed a multi-year deal with Rudolph.”
Leslie Sloane Zelnik — who was re-hired by Spears recently to be her spokeswoman — was unavailable for comment yesterday.

If you haven't already happened upon this particular piece of comic genius during your travels across the Interweb, pause for a moment, then, to watch some Will Ferrell hilarity. The two minute video stars Ferrell, co-writer and friend Adam McKay, and McKay's two year-old daughter Pearl as a landlord. Sadly, McKay has drawn fire from some for having his toddler recite such verbal darts as b*tch and a**hole. These people need to chill, yo. The reason for making this video, btw? Just to make something funny. Novel concept. Watch YouTube below or check a cleaner version on their site.

Is there anything Lindsay Lohan won't do to try and cement a respected spot in the Hollywood establishment? Apparently not. Legendary Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks tells Blender that she has heard that Lohan wants to portray her in a biopic, and that Nicks thinks it's a pretty awful idea. Though could it be argued that Lohan's substance abuse could merely have been preparation for the role?
Stevie Nicks has denied rumours that Lindsay Lohan has signed to play her in an upcoming film.
Lohan is said to be desperate to portray Nicks in a movie focusing on the Fleetwood Mac singer's rock star lifestyle in the seventies and eighties.
However, Nicks insisted that she has never even heard of the movie and believes it would be impossible to make.
Nicks told Blender: "Lindsay Lohan thinks she is going to play me? But what the hell movie does she think she's talking about? There is no book, there is no screenplay, there is no movie without me, because it's never going to be the story of me.
"Even though a lot has been written about me, the fact is nobody actually has a clue to what my life was really like. So, good luck Lindsay!"

It's happened - Britney Spears has up and gone Valley Girl on us. In a confessional video shot for X17 Online, the newly single pop tart (a trademarked phrase, I'm sure) rambles on and on about her love for attention and paparazzi. That's right, Britney watchers, it's sarcasm. Well, we hope it's sarcasm. It's the over the top Valley Girl accent that is the tip-off.
At left is a pic from the good old days, when she actually looked like a Valley Girl. Poor Brit.

Babies. Yes, they're cute, but when it comes to music, they're pretty ignorant. For proof of this, go to any rock show, whether it be at a club, arena or festival. The white elephant in the room that no one wants to discuss is the fact that babies aren't there, and the ones that are there were forced to attend.
Baby Rock Records wants to change all this. The label has made baby music, transforming timeless rock songs into beautiful instrumental lullabies, sending your little one to a slumberland of sweet dreams.
The list of artists that Baby Rock has transformed
includes Radiohead, the Eagles, Nirvana, Pink Floyd and Metallica. Radiohead's No Surprises actually sounds very similar to the original, which, upon further reflection, was pretty lullaby-like.
Metallica's One on the other hand? Childlike, of course, and deeply, deeply disturbing.

When someone like Madonna starts to work with someone like Justin Timberlake, it makes for fascinating debate. For example, is this a sad stab at relevance by a 48 year-old popster, or a wondrous meeting between leading icons of two different generations of pop stars? I tend to think the former, if only for the fact that Madonna has done the Legend Works With Contemporary Star thing in the past (hello, Ray Of Light). Also, she once memorably collaborated with Britney Spears. Madonna will also be appearing in Al Gore's Live Earth shows this summer, but that's a discussion for another post...
Madonna and Justin Timberlake are working together on her new album, her publicist, Liz Rosenberg, confirmed to The ShowBuzz on Wednesday.
Rosenberg said that the singers have been in the studio in London along with rapper-producer Timbaland. She said there was no firm release date for the album yet. According to reports, its due to be released in November.
Madonna has collaborated with other stars in the past, including Britney Spears (Timberlake's ex-girlfriend) and Grammy-winning DJ Stuart Price (aka Jacques Lu Cont).
Timbaland recently told Entertainment Weekly that he'd like to help Spears with her comeback album. He has collaborated with Timberlake and Nelly Furtado.
It was announced Tuesday that Madonna, along with the Beastie Boys and Black Eyed Peas, will headline the Live Earth concerts taking place at London's Wembley stadium this summer.

Well that didn't take long. Willa Ford, host of fuse's very own Pants-Off Dance-Off, is set to star in the title role of an Anna Nicole Smith biopic that begins shooting next week. Strike while the iron is hot! That's what they say. The flick will cover Smith's life as a centerfold, model, wife of an aged tycoon and lightning rod for tragedy. No word on how Trimspa will be portrayed.
Dancer-singer Willa Ford has signed to star as Anna Nicole Smith in an indie biopic that will begin shooting next week.
The previously announced film, "Anna Nicole," is produced by Jack Nasser and Joseph Nasser with Elie Samaha exec producing. Keoni Waxman directs.
Movie will cover Smith's life from age 17 until her death in February at 39, including her success as a Playboy centerfold, Guess model and actress, her marriage to billionaire oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall II, the death of her son and her own death five months after giving birth to a baby girl, Dannielynn. The dispute that erupted over who was the baby's father was settled Tuesday when a judge in the Bahamas ruled, based on DNA tests, in favor of California photographer and former Smith boyfriend Larry Birkhead.
Ford's best known for her multiplatinum single "I Wanna Be Bad" and her debut album "Willa Was Here." She was also a performer on the third season of ABC's "Dancing With the Stars." She is currently writing and recording her sophomore album. [Ed: Hey, don't forget about Pants-Off Dance-Off!]

File this under Freakin' Weird - Lou Pearlman, the impressario/manager/guru of pop music mainstays such as N'Sync and the Backstreet Boys, has apparently fled the country in order to avoid what is sure to be massive charges of fraud.
For those of you unfamiliar with Pearlman - that's him above - he's a bit of a self-made business man who built small businesses and continually reinvested the profits into new ventures. He began by turning a New York City area helicopter service into a charter jet venture that shuttled stars such as Madonna and the Rolling Stones from gig to gig. Remembering the profits that 1990 boy band New Kids On The Block generated, Pearlman set about finding groups of handsome, talented young men who could sing and dance. Hello Backstreet Boys, and later, N'Sync.
By the early part of this decade, Pearlman was a multi-millionaire. He created Making The Band and even penned a book, released in 2003, called Bands, Brands, & Billions: My Top 10 Rules for Making Any Business Go Platinum.
The article linked below is fascinating. it's also long, which is why it is only briefly excerpted here. But even this little tidbit makes one feel sorry for Justin Timberlake, Lance Bass, Brian Littrell and everyone else under Pearlman's yoke. But only a teensy bit sorry.
But when the Backstreet Boys, 'N Sync and others of his acts established success, they frequently went to court to challenge the control he wielded and cash he took while acting as both their manager and producer.
When his control of the bands ended, so did his winning streak. Making the Band fell off the ABC schedule after one season, although it survived two more years on MTV. Pearlman didn't follow through on a plan with Zelnick in 2002 to create bands that would take on the identities of comic-book characters The Archies and Josie and the Pussycats. At least one was to be prepped for a TV series similar to The Monkees.
That same year, he bought Options Talent, a scandal-plagued firm that offered to help talent agents find modeling and acting clients using the Internet. It filed for bankruptcy protection a year later.
"It doesn't appear that any of these businesses, especially after 'N Sync and the Backstreet Boys, were profitable," McHale says.
Few could tell, though, until recently.

Although the mag doesn't go into specifics, the honor is probably due to her fantastic [redacted], as well as her jaw-dropping [redacted].

The 22-year-old Hollywood actress topped a poll in Glamour magazine.
The Lost In Translation star is famous for her voluptuous figure.

I know Keith Richards likes putting things up his nose but this is ridiculous. The Rolling Stones guitarist, and Pirates Of The Caribbean star, told the NME that he had snorted the ashes of his recently-deceased father. Or, more accurately, had sprinkled some ashes into cocaine he was doing. Of course, he now claims he was joking.
It is amazing how, even in 2007, 42 years after he first became a rock star, Keith Richards can still say, and possibly do, sh*t even the craziest rock stars wouldn't say or do. Bravo.
Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards has denied that he snorted the ashes of his late father during a drugs binge.
The story surfaced in the NME, where Richards said in an interview: "He was cremated and I couldn't resist grinding him up with a little bit of blow."
Richards' father, Bert, died at the age of 84 in 2002.
Sixty-three-year-old Richards also told NME of his disdain for modern bands, calling Arctic Monkeys, The Libertines and Bloc Party "a load of crap".
He said in the interview that his father's ashes "went down pretty well".
Jane Rose, Richards' manager, later told MTV News the remarks were made "in jest", and she could not believe they had been taken seriously.
Now Richards has issued a statement, which says the story was "lost in translation".
"I wouldn't take cocaine at this point in my life unless I wished to commit suicide," he said.
"The truth of the matter is that I planted a sturdy English Oak.
"I took the lid off the box of ashes and he [Richards' father] is now growing oak trees and would love me for it!"
But NME interviewer Mark Beaumont is convinced that Richards was not joking when speaking to him about the alleged incident.
"He did seem to be quite honest about it. There were too many details for him to be making it up," he told BBC Radio 4's Today programme.
Mr Beaumont added: "In Keith Richards' world that is probably doing his dad a fair bit of honour."

...On Kids Incorporated no less! Continuing with our Fergie theme this week, here is some footage of Stacy Ferguson, AKA Fergie, performing the Pretenders' hit Middle Of The Road. Though Kids Incorporated used to edit adult language, they seemed to think that having a little girl sing about very adult themes - "I'm tired as hell [changed to heck], I'm not the cat I used to be, I've got a kid, I'm 33" - was alright.
The kids (obviously) show Kids Incorporated ran from 1984 through 1993 and revolved around a bunch of kids who have a rock band and perform regularly at a cafe called The P*lace. Most fascinating is the list of alumni: Fergie, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Martika and 24's Eric Balfour. Wow. And note the drumset(!) done up in Eddie Van Halen red with criss-crossed white stripes.

If you've been around the internet for the past couple of days, you may have already crossed paths with this wonderful piece of video: yes, indeed, it's Alanis Morissette covering My Humps by the Black Eyed Peas. And no, she's not all that serious about it. Which is a good thing, no? Freakin' hilarious.

That Fergie is everywhere. Television, awards shows, sporting event halftime shows, magazine articles... it doesn't stop. Which is why it's somewhat big news that Fergie has revealed she had some lesbian flings back when she was breaking away from the yoke of parental supervision. Is this big news in the long run? No. Are we going to link to this? Yes.
Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie has confessed to having a series of lesbian relationships when she was younger, in a bid to rebel against her parents.
The My Humps singer has revealed she rebelled against her parents and her strict Catholic upbringing when she was 18 experimenting with drugs and sex.
She said: "I have had lesbian experiences in the past. But I started having sex quite late on - after I was 18. I was raised a good Catholic girl.
"I won't say how many men I have slept with, although it's not many, but I am a very sexual person."
Fergie - who plays a lesbian in Quentin Tarantino's new horror film Grindhouse - eventually got hooked on crystal meth, a powerful amphetamine which can cause users to stay awake for three days and experience powerful hallucinations.
The Glamorous singer admits she was lucky to come out of her drugs hell alive.
Fergie - real name Stacy Ferguson - said: "When I was going through my out-of-control phase, I could have got into some very dangerous situations. But I never sold my body - ever.
"I even had a gun put to my head during a Los Angeles drug deal that went wrong. Luckily, I got out of it."
Before embarking on her musical career, Fergie was a child star appearing in the classic US sitcoms Mr Belvedere and Married With Children.

In a world where mashups are an everyday occurance, where technology is breaking down distribution barriers each day, where cross-genre collabos are an expected happening... EVEN in such a world, this is pretty stunning/amazing/bizarre: Ashlee Simpson could be teaming up with The Cure's Robert Smith for a track on her next album!
Entertainment Weekly got the scoop after running into Simpson dad/manager Joe at SXSW in Austin, who also revealed that Ash has been working with Ethiopian artist Kenna as well as Neptune Chad Hugo, Timbaland and John Legend.
And who brought Ashlee Simpson and Robert Smith together? None other than Pete Wentz. Ashlee and Robert Smith: weird, yes, but as long as the fruits
of their work appear on Ashlee's releases, and not The Cure's, I'm cool wid it.
The album involves Kenna (whose own album is due this June) and his buddy and producer Chad Hugo — a.k.a., the member of production über-duo the Neptunes who is not Pharrell Williams.
Mr. Simpson tells us Ashlee, Chad, and Kenna were in the studio writing songs earlier this month, and that she's also working with Timbaland, John Legend, and Tim Rice-Oxley of Brit sensations Keane, who teamed up with Gwen Stefani on ''Lonely Winter,'' one of the strongest, most reflective tracks on her recent Sweet Escape album.
The bigger shocker? Ashlee's also reportedly collaborating with Robert Smith. Yes, as in the legendary frontman of Alternative Nation icons the Cure. Could their mutual buddy, Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz, be the connection? When asked by our west-coast counterpart Shirley Halperin, Wentz demurred. ''I doubt I had anything to do with it, 'cause they were friends since she was performing in Chicago [in London last year]. But I definitely only have good things to say about Ash — I think the collaboration could be great!''

Awsome band!
