Our friends from the eighties are back, and they've been keeping busy.
We'll start with a personal hero of mine, Prince Adam of Eternia. This half-Eternian/half-human (on his mother's side) is better known as He-Man, defender of Greyskull. While it's common knowledge that he "has the power," less known is his skill behind the microphone. Go here to enjoy his heartfelt rendition of the 4 Non Blondes hit, "What's Up" with cameos from Beast Man, Man-At-Arms, the Sorceress, a palace chef and, everyone's favorite, Skeletor himself.
But the Master of the Universe aren't the only ones trying to make a comeback. As is generally the case when something exciting is going down, G.I. Joe is there. Back in the eighties they helped us fight our battles (half-way) by teaching us about "knowing." Now they've returned with all new public service announcements that are a bit less... lucid. Enjoy the reggae stylings of G.I. Joe medic, Doc , or learn about carnival safety as demonstrated by resident climbing expert, Alpine.
Or if that doesn't work for you, go watch a baby panda sneeze. It's cute.

This may seem different because I'm going to talk about a Japanese rocker, my favorite Japanese rocker. His name is Hyde, he's the lead singer for the band L'arc~en~ciel (in French it means "The Arc in the Sky). His new album "Faith" is his 3rd solo album and he recently performed 2 shows in LA and 2 shows in SF. It's difficult to describe to people why he's so freakin awesome!!! I can listen to his albums ALL DAY LONG and not get tired of them. I can definitely hear him grow musically and in his lyrics. He's not afraid to experiment with other style of music, ie. jazz and classical. I admire those artists that uses their art to convey messages of importance rather than just singing about love songs. In his latest album he wrote songs concerning religion and his own faith. By doing that he allows his listeners to question about their own faith and believes also this makes his album very personal. What makes his latest album even more special is how FREAKIN HEAVY ROCK it is. So go check him out, his album is in stores.

I'm not saying I know everything, but I do know awesome when it starts kicking me in the face. And Muse's video for "Knights of Cydonia" is awesome. Boss awesome.
I'm no Muse groupie-superfan. I've been on the fence about this band for quite some time. At first I was like, "These guys sound too much like Radiohead." But then I was all, "Wait, maybe that's cool." It ended up being a heated debate, but I never really did resolve the issue. Thankfully, they went ahead and cleared the matter up for me by making what is now my number one favorite video - "KNIGHTS OF CYDONIA!" (replacing Queensryche's "Silent Lucidity" - number one for sixteen rockin' years!).
Not only does this video feature a kung-fu cowboy with a laser gun fighting robots from the back of a unicorn in a Mad Max-y style Old West, he does it all rocking a sweet moustache. Come on! Either video directors are getting more creative or someone's been reading my dream journal.
So I guess I have to ask, is it wrong to love a band based solely on their video? Even if it is the raddest video ever? What about hearing a song and disliking it, but changing your mind after you see the video? Or vice-versa? Or is it cool - like when you see someone and don't think they're cute but then you start talking to them and the more you get to know them the more you think maybe they are kind of cute? Am I the only one this happens to?
Taste the magic here .

What's thirteen years old and cost thirteen million dollars to make?
If you said a) Dakota Fanning, b) Trump's hairpiece or c) "I don't know, but I'll drink it," you're either a) kind of mean, b) kind of corny or c) my kind of guy.
If, however, you said "My new album," you're Axl Rose.
"Chinese Democracy" will finally see the light of day... by the end of the year. Probably. This is, after all, straight from the man himself. And if you can't trust Axl Rose, then who can you trust? (Read more here)
In all honesty, I can't wait for this album to drop. If you're anything like me, Guns 'N Roses was your introduction to the dark side of life. You watched that video from that Dirty Harry movie (the one where he shoots a rocket through that guy's chest) and that other video where Axl is strapped into a chair (with his eyes taped open) and wanted to look that mean and tough and pretty and svelte. You wanted to be cool, and G'NR made you feel cool. In that red bandanna.
Although, if you're anything like me, you probably also have a hard time looking away from train wrecks.
Godspeed, Mr. Rose.
