She Got Legs, But What About Leggs?

Posted on May 31, 2006 at 10:56 AM

Mariahlegs

Mariah Carey has reportedly insured her legs for a billion dollars ahead of her first US tour in three years.

The singer, who enjoyed a massive comeback year in 2005, has recently inked a deal to star in Gillette's 'Legs Of A Goddess' advertising campaign.

"I don’t want to talk about money," she said. "But I would say that if your legs were insured for a billion dollars it wouldn’t be the best thing to go around talking about it.”

Combining hip-hop and reggae, as well as forgettable tunes and repellant rhymes.

Paris Hilton says her upcoming album will be a mix of reggae, pop and hip-hop, with the first single being a reggae song called "Stars Are Blind."

Hilton will also do a remake of the Rod Stewart song "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?," she was quoted as saying in the June issue of Hong Kong magazine Prestige.

"The whole album has so much different music on it. I like all music. It's not like I only like pop or only rock. I want to have something for everybody," Hilton said.

Hilton said she wrote the lyrics to seven of her songs. The article didn't say how many songs are on the album.

She said she had to overcome shyness to become a singer.

"I have always had a voice and always known I could sing, but I was too shy to let it come out. I think that is the hardest thing you can do, to sing in front of people. When I finally let go and did it, I realized it is what I am most talented at and what I love to do the most," Hilton said.

"We are confirming that we have amicably separated," the pair said in a statement released Monday by Richie's publicist, Cindy Guagenti. They did not provide any details of the break-up.

Richie, 24, and Goldstein, a professional club DJ who goes by the name DJ AM, called off their engagement in December.

Hope She Lives To Tell

Madonnatour

Madonna kicked her off her world tour with an LA show that featured a giant disco ball (of course), sweaty male dancers (of course) and a crucifixion scene during Live To Tell (duh, of course). USA Today reports:

The visual orgy includes a giant disco ball that peels open like a lotus, hidden trapdoors, a saddle bobbing on a pole (yes, she rides it), a flashing catwalk that leads to a lighted dance floor at the center of the arena, sweeping tilted ramps for dance escapades and huge screens flashing cutting-edge videos of, well, mostly more Madonna. The visuals dramatically enhance the sonics, except in two cases of gratuitous excess — when horrific horse accidents crop up during Like a Virgin and when Madonna strikes a mock crucifixion pose on a geometric cross while singing Live to Tell, spoiling one of her most intimate and haunting ballads.

More Fall Out Boy Controversy

Posted on May 16, 2006 at 10:18 AM

Falloutboy_costumes

Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz aired his views at a Charlotte, NC show - and one mother wasn't happy.

An angry parent has written an email to Fall Out Boy's label, Island Def Jam Records, after taking her daughters to see the band last Tuesday (May 2) in Charlotte, North Carolina. The woman wrote that she was enraged by bassist Pete Wentz's "personal political testimony" onstage, complaining that "the ticket said 'all ages,' and your band was very foul-mouthed and anti-morals. Charlotte is not the demoralized city that liberal San Francisco and other cities across the North and West are...this was a concert, not some liberal homosexual rally."

The woman promised to contact national news organizations and other venues where Fall Out Boy would be playing, claiming that the band would lose "a lot of financial support" as a result. She concluded, "Your responsibility was to sing your songs. When you opened your mouth to talk, you blew it...By the way, my children will not be a part of your sick idea of family."

Wentz posted the letter at Fall Out Boy's website, along with his own response. The bassist wrote, "The only thing I said in Charlotte was, 'You can leave this show and say, ‘I think this guy is an arrogant jerk,’ or think, ‘This band is better than this one,’ because these are your opinions. The only thing we consider unacceptable is for you to engage in sexist, racist or homophobic behavior. If you do, we don't want you as a fan.'"

Wentz did offer an apology for any profanity he might have used, but did not change his stance, adding, "I encourage fans of our band to grow up to become good people and to change the world. Unfortunately, I don't believe that treating other people as inhuman is acceptable. (Our show) is not a liberal homosexual rally, but at the same time, it will never be a Ku Klux Klan rally."

It Takes A Nation Of Millions?

Djbesho

Rappers in Afghanistan? Crazier things have happened.

KABUL (Reuters) - Rap may have been born on the gritty, violent streets of American cities but Afghan rapper DJ Besho says he wants to send a message of peace to the new generation of war-torn Afghanistan.

Besho, 28, looks the part with his baseball cap, dark glasses and combat trousers but he's no gangster.

He says young Afghans should unite, stay clear of drugs and study hard for the benefit of the country. And he says the pirates who have already started copying his music should be jailed.

"My message is peace, fight against drugs. People must try to learn something for this country ... It's very, very important," Besho said in an interview at Kabul's Tolo TV station where he was editing his new video.

"The right way for the new generation is to go to school, of course."

Chilipeppersdanicaliforn

Stadium Arcadium, the latest album from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, leaked onto the internet before its official release (today, FYI). And guess which tri-sock wearing bassist was none too pleased?

Fleamail May 2, 2006
Date: Tues, May 2
Subject:
From: "Michael Balzary"
To: members@redhotchilipeppers.com

when i woke up this morning
i was was confronted with the news that our record has been leaked to
the internet
it does not come out til may 9 but now it has leaked
and not that i know alot about this kind of thing
but i guess now it is possible to down load it for free if you want
well
that's not very nice
if you down load it now off one of these file sharing sites
you will be getting a pale imitation of the record
it will be of the poor sound quality of the technique they used to
get it on there
and that will break my heart
it will break john frusciante's heart
it will break anthony kiedis's heart
and it will break the heart of chad smith
yes, we worked for a year and a half to make the epic record of our
lives
and it is sad to me for the business reasons of course
i think we are selling something really cool and we put all we had
into it, 28 songs, 2 hours of the best that we can offer
and i think it is a fair deal for everyone
and for people to just steal a poor sound quality version of it for free
because some asshole stole it and put it on the internet
is sad to me
but, equitable business reasons aside
the thing that really bums me out is
we worked so hard, and so thoughtfully, all of us, for so long
to make this record sound as warm and full from top to bottom
as was possible
we spent day and night for a year making sure every little sound was
just right
that they were all put together in the most beautiful way we could
we did not leave a stone unturned in doing that work
i can not put in words how much this record, stadium arcadium, means
to us
how sacred the sound of it is to us
and how many sleepless nights and hardworking days we all had
thinking about how to make it be the best sounding thing we could
and now, for someone to take it and put it out there with this poor
sound quality
it is a painful pill for us to swallow
let me tell you
this bums all of us out
and i know that, as sensitive as john frusciante is about sound
the idea of anyone getting and hearing this thing that way
will devastate him
for people to not hear the work the way we meant it to be
will really hurt him deep inside
and all of us will hurt

yes, it is stealing from us, and that is lame
everyone has to live with their own conscience on that one
let it be your guide
but to take a version that has been defiled sound wise
a version in which some idiot has taken our year and a half of soul
baring work and pissed all over it
that will break our hearts

sincerely,

flea

Brandon Flowers - Out Of Ideas

Posted on May 8, 2006 at 12:31 PM

Killersweb

Brandon Flowers says the Killers are recording the "best album of the last 20 years." He's also telling the biggest lie of the past six months.

Brandon Flowers is feeling confident

The Killers' Brandon Flowers has said that the band are recording "one of the best albums in the past 20 years".

The Las Vegas group have been hard at work in their hometown since January with producers Flood and Alan Moulder in Studio At The Palms.

Flowers said of the recording process: "We just have to make the best album that we can. And we're doing it. This album is one of the best albums in the past 20 years. There's nothing that touches this album. And that sounds like I'm being cocky, but I'm just so excited."

Combining Two Great Bands...

Posted on May 5, 2006 at 12:26 PM

Mrbrownstoneweb

...And several hip replacements. Also opening for the Stones this tour: Kasabian, the Charlatans and Kaiser Chiefs. Above is a photo of kick butt Guns n' Roses cover band Mr. Brownstone.

Guns N' Roses will open two German dates on the Rolling Stones' upcoming tour of Europe, a role they last performed during the Stones' 1989 U.S. trek.

According to the Rolling Stones' Web site, the Axl Rose-rose led rock band will warm up the crowd in Nuremburg on July 10 and Leipzig on July 12.

The original Guns N' Roses lineup -- Rose is now the only veteran -- opened for the Stones during their four-night stint at the Los Angeles Coliseum in October 1989. One of their sets was highlighted by a Rose monologue in defense of racist and homophobic lyrics in the song "One in a Million," a bitter complaint that too many people in the Guns organization were "dancing with Mr. Brownstone" (i.e. doing drugs), and a pledge that he would never perform again with Guns N' Roses.

Rolling Stone - Still Out Of Ideas

Posted on May 3, 2006 at 11:32 AM

Rollingstonecoverweb

Rolling Stone will be celebrating their upcoming 1000th issue with a 3-D cover. Think there'll be a list somewhere in this issue? Of course - it's Rolling Stone.

In a throwback to a technology popular when kids still put baseball cards between their bicycle spokes, Rolling Stone magazine is printing the cover of its 1,000th issue in 3-D.

The special cover--which is a montage similar to the Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" album and includes images of hundreds of pop culture luminaries since the late 1960s--is intended to be an eye-popping attention grabber.

"We wanted to do something that wasn't done before that would instantly stand out," said Will Dana, Rolling Stone's managing editor. "We wanted a `wow' factor. It looks amazing."

Here, for no reason, is the WORST Rolling Stone cover ever. Check it:
