KARACHI, Pakistan – Canadian pop star Bryan Adams rocked for relief in Pakistan, taking the stage Sunday night to raise money for victims of the South Asian earthquake that killed 87,000 and left millions homeless.
The concert was billed as the first by a major western pop musician in Pakistan since the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks in the United States.
Adams, best known for hits like Summer of '69 and Cuts Like a Knife, arrived in Pakistan's biggest city just days after the U.S. State Department issued a travel advisory for the country, citing concerns about terrorism.
But that didn't faze the singer.
“The whole idea of coming to Pakistan is very exciting on many levels,” Adams told an afternoon news conference. “It's exciting because I know we are the first western artists to come and play a big concert here.”
Sadly, hundreds of concertgoers were injured stampeding out of the venue as Adams performed Summer of '69.

Bon Jovi - still (barely) in the news:
Hamilton, ON - For Bon Jovi, it was a short flight and a long landing.
Friday night the New Jersey-based rock superstars and their staff boarded a plan boarded their private jet in Buffalo, where they had just played a show, bound for Hamilton, where they would land in advance of Saturday night’s concert at the Air Canada Centre.
By the time the plane slid to a stop on the three-kilometre-long landing strip, its front wheels had gone past the edge of the runway, said airport president Richard Koroscil. The rest of the plane remained on the tarmac and rescue crews evacuated the passengers, he said.
Fourteen people were on the plane, according to news reports.
No one was hurt and the plane wasn’t damaged, Koroscil said.
No one was hurt, but all hair products were lost in the tragedy.

Entertainer Billy Joel has added a second appearance in the Carrier Dome - one at which he will talk instead of perform.
Syracuse University announced Thursday that Joel will be the keynote speaker for this year's May 14 commencement. The ceremony is held jointly with the graduating class from the State University of New York's College of Environmental Science and Forestry.
Joel is scheduled to give a concert at the dome on March 25.
"We welcome his vision and his commentary about the society in which our graduates will be leaders," Syracuse Chancellor Nancy Cantor said in a statement.
And then he'll drive home and plow into a tree.

Here's some news from over the weekend (and last week, and this past fall, and last summer, and about a year ago, and...):
Babyshambles lead singer Pete Doherty has been arrested on suspicion of possessing illegal drugs, just days after pleading guilty in a London court to possessing heroin and cocaine, police said on Monday.
The 26-year-old, best known for an on-off relationship with British supermodel Kate Moss, was stopped by police early on Saturday and arrested for alleged possession of class A and class C drugs.
Last Wednesday, the troubled rocker pleaded guilty to possessing heroin and cocaine, and is due to reappear in court on February 8.
Doherty, who shot to fame as lead singer of The Libertines, has been in the headlines since Moss was filmed last year apparently snorting cocaine, prompting several fashion labels to sever ties with the supermodel, who turned 32 on Monday.
Too bad about his drug use (though not his Kate Moss-scoring) - Babyshambles isn't that bad.

Frequently going to the bathroom? Gee, I wonder what that means.
SISTERS-in-scandal Lindsay Lohan and Kate Moss joined forces at Scores strip club early yesterday morning to put on a steamy pole-dance show for 400 slack-jawed male patrons, PAGE SIX has learned.
Lohan, Moss [PICTURED ABOVE] and a couple of female friends swanned into the Upper East Side mammary mecca at about 2:45 a.m. and headed straight for the legendary Champagne Room, where the giggly group ordered round after round of vodka shots, raspberry Kamikazes and beer.
Their table was immediately swarmed by strippers and Lohan and Moss enjoyed numerous lap dances. But the fun really started when Moss jumped on the stage nearest the main bar and began grinding against a pole, much to the delight of hundreds of red-blooded banker types.
"Kate was going wild," a witness told us. "After a few songs, Lindsay jumped on stage with her. They were swinging on the pole with their arms around each other's waists, kissing each other, caressing each other, just acting like strippers. The crowd was cheering them on the whole time. They didn't take off any clothes, but it was very hot."
Luckily, we found someone who would: Celebrity photographer James Edstrom managed to catch some of the eye-popping action and followed Lohan and Moss outside when they left some time after 4 a.m.
"They were both running in and out of the ladies' room a lot," Edstrom recalled. "I saw when it was just Lindsay dancing solo and Kate was yelling, 'You're a pro, Lindsay! You should do this for a living!'

This is the first biological child for Jolie, 30, who is already the mother of son Maddox, 4, whom she adopted from Cambodia, and daughter Zahara, 1, adopted from Ethiopia in July.
Jolie, who has often spoken about expanding her family, added that she’d like to adopt again. In October she told PEOPLE: "There's something about making a choice, waking up and traveling somewhere and finding your family."
The baby is to be named Earth and will be donated to the people of Africa. Just kidding. Maybe.

The Who guitarist Pete Townshend has warned music fans against potential hearing damage caused by headphones as portable players become more popular.
The 60-year-old said studio headphones caused his hearing problems, rather than playing loudly on stage.
"I have unwittingly helped to invent and refine a type of music that makes its principal proponents deaf," Townshend wrote on his website.
"My intuition tells me there is terrible trouble ahead."
"Hearing loss is a terrible thing because it cannot be repaired," he wrote.
"If you use an iPod or anything like it, or your child uses one, you may be OK. It may only be studio earphones that cause bad damage."
But he added that headphone use will increase because "the computer is now central to our world".
"The downside may be that on our computers - for privacy, for respect to family and co-workers, and for convenience - we use earphones at almost every stage of interaction with sound."
I agree with Pete. Damaging my ears is something I think about a lot, especially given the amount of music I listen to. But I don't follow him regarding studio headphones. Generally, the higher quality your headphones are, the less damaging they are. And given that he was in the freakin' Who, i'm sure his phones were high quality. Basically, just make sure not to crank things too loud - that's what does it.
A fellow Fuser says:
he also used to CRANK his guitar on stage, using many 100-watt Hiwatt heads, i used to have one, they're f*cking loud. i'm sure that didn't help his ears...
Or are we completely off? Hmmm...

Ladies and Gentlemen, Retrocrush presents The 100 Most Annoying Things About 2005. (via Thighs Wide Shut)
21 MICHAEL JACKSON FANS
It’s one thing to look the other way if a celebrity you like strays from honor once or twice, but what kind of world do Michael Jackson fans live in where they think this guy is great? The only folks stupider were on the jury that acquitted him. Let’s hope those rumors of his launching a “Jesus Juice” white wine label aren’t true.
14 CAR MAGNETS
Cause nothing says patriotism than ribbon shaped flags. Every time you stick one of these on your car, you’re sticking it to terrorism.
2 TOM CRUISE
Tom Cruise is completely sane, virile, exhibits self control, is a member of a totally rational non-cult religion, does not eat babies, and does not use mind control to trick Hollywood starlets into carrying the seed of space-demons.
