Another Old Band Post

Posted on December 30, 2005 at 12:38 PM

Rollingstonestourweb

The Rolling Stones smashed their own 11-year-old record for the highest-grossing North American concert tour of all time in 2005, helping lift overall ticket sales to a new high, trade publication Pollstar said on Thursday.

The Stones sold $162 million worth of tickets by playing their golden oldies for 1.2 million concertgoers, while Irish rockers U2 pulled in $138.9 million from 1.4 million fans. U2 worked a little harder for its payday, playing 78 shows in North America, compared with 42 performances by the Stones.

Charging a million bucks a ticket while playing the biggest stadiums around will certainly rack up the bucks. The Stones are legends, but maybe you'd be better off supporting smaller bands at your local club. Just sayin'.

Insert Depends Joke Here

Posted on December 29, 2005 at 12:42 PM

Petetownshendweb
English rock veterans The Who will return to the stage next year following "a very, very cool" surprise announcement in June, according to guitarist Pete Townshend.

No dates have been confirmed, but Townshend said he expected to unveil some new material on the road.

"I have said many times... that I am reticent about committing to a tour without a completed new Who album under my belt," Townshend said. "As things stand I am still pushing to produce some more songs. So the announcement (of a 2006 tour) may seem premature. It is not."

Ten bucks says that the "very, very cool" announcement will regard which corporate giant is sponsoring the tour. Half of their band is dead! Lame.

Kevin Federline, aspiring rapper and husband of Britney Spears, has unveiled his own Web site.

Federline, whose new hip-hop album, “The Truth,” is due out in 2006, appears to expect big things in the coming year.

The Web site begins with an introduction of Federline rapping, “Keep messin’ with my family and you’re through,” played over various tabloid articles about the couple.

In a note on the Web site, Federline says he hopes “this will provide you with the opportunity to get to know who I really am.”

The site also has photos, a bio and links to other deadbeat losers.

I Guess That's Why They Call It A Bachelor Party...

Posted on December 20, 2005 at 01:05 PM

Eltoncarweb

Elton John and partner David Furnish held a bachelor party in London last night. A gay time was had by all, especially the bachelor. And the other bachelor.

Sir Elton John and his partner David Furnish have held a joint stag party ahead of their civil union.

Many celebrities attended a cabaret performance at a London nightclub, including Ozzy Osbourne and wife Sharon, Sir Tim Rice and Liz Hurley.

Sir Elton and Mr Furnish were smuggled into the Too2Much venue in Soho minutes before the event began.

Their ceremony in Windsor takes place on Wednesday, when civil partnerships become legal in England and Wales.

TV presenter Paul O'Grady compered the stag night event. He said earlier in the evening: "We're going to tie them to a lamppost, cover them with shaving foam - it's an old-fashioned stag do."

U2 "Honored" For the Sixth Millionth Time

The members of U2 and their manager Paul McGuinness have been given the Ambassador Of Conscience Award by Amnesty International. Irene Khan, who is the Secretary General of the human-rights organization, said, "Their leadership in linking music to the struggle for human rights and human dignity worldwide has been ground-breaking and unwavering. They have inspired and empowered millions with their music and by speaking out on behalf of the poor, the powerless, and the oppressed."

The poor, the powerless and the oppressed. IE, those who do not yet own video iPods.

A Ludacris 2005

Posted on December 13, 2005 at 10:31 AM

Ludacrisspunweb

From the Oven Fresh Boards:

Ludacris - Georgia kriam_sevtent12 - Posted on: 12/13/05 First, early in the year, he released a shi-tpile of a single called "Number One Spot". Then in the summer of 2005, he released "Pimping All Over The World" which featured that other douchebag Bobby Valentino and was accompanied with such an unoriginal video. Then by the fall of this year, he managed to record himself taking a crap in the Men's bathroom of CBGB's, with some other fat old dudes doing their business in the other bathroom stalls next to him, for Jamie Foxx's latest single "Unpredictable". He then released a video for "Georgia", a DTP Presentation attempt to crash the sampled Ray Charles song into the ground. Looking back at these events, it looks like Ludacris isn't going to get any presents from Santa Claus this year, nor is he getting any dreidels for Hanukkah.

No presents from Santa Claus? That's pretty harsh.

It's A Dog's Life

Posted on December 12, 2005 at 01:01 PM

Paristinkerbellweb

British singer Joss Stone was chosen 2005 World's Best Dog Owner while hotel heiress Paris Hilton was named the worst by readers of a dog magazine.

Stone, 18, emerged the victor over other celebrity canine lovers such as Charlize Theron, Ashley Olsen and John O'Hurley for the annual title, the magazines said in a news release.

Hilton was the overwhelming choice for the finger-wagging title based on her fickle treatment of her Chihuahua, Tinkerbell.

"Our readers felt Ms. Hilton's dog-parenting skills left a lot to be desired," said Leslie Padgett, editor of The New York and Hollywood Dog Magazines.

Frankly, I feel as though all of Ms. Hilton's skills leave a lot to be desired (except one, but I don't know for sure. Yet.).

CBGB Update

Posted on December 8, 2005 at 01:35 PM

Cbgbweb_2

They're leaving the 313 Bowery address... but perhaps moving only a few blocks downtown?

New York’s punk rock music mecca CBGB reached an agreement with its landlords on Wednesday that allows the music club to stay at its East Village address for another year.

The agreement calls for CBGB to close its doors on the Bowery by Oct. 31, 2006.

Owner Hilly Kristal, who in 1973 founded the joint whose initials stand for country, bluegrass and blues, said he was unhappy about losing the location but said the agreement gave him time to look at other possible sites in Times Square and downtown Manhattan.

“We are only going to leave the smell and the echo of the rock ’n’ roll sound -- 32 years of it -- and there will be ghosts flying around beating drums and loud music,” he said.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg said in a statement the city would help CBGB find a new home in New York.

“CBGB has served as an incubator for cutting edge artists and entertainers,” Bloomberg said. “With today’s agreement and our efforts, I believe CBGB will continue in its prominent role in setting trends in music and culture.”

This could be a good resolution to the whole mess. During the recent failed attempt to bring the 2012 Olympics to New York, the city used footage of CBGBs as part of its push to promote New York as a 24 hour city that is a perfect home for every type of person. If the city feels that strongly about CB's place in the city's mythology, then it makes sense to "take care" of it. Plus, it'll be nice to take a leak in a nice, new bathroom (sorry, I have no nostalgia for disgusting cans).

The Rock Gods Giveth...

Posted on December 7, 2005 at 12:36 PM

Eddievanhalen1web

...And the rock gods taketh away.

Rap star Eminem has announced he is back with his ex-wife Kimberly Mathers and considering remarriage. "We have reconciled and are probably going to remarry," Eminem told Detroit radio station WKQI-FM.

The wife of rock guitarist Eddie Van Halen has filed for divorce in a bid to end the couple's 24-year marriage. Actress Valerie Bertinelli has cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for their separation. The couple, who met at a Van Halen concert in 1980, will share custody of their 14-year-old son, Wolfgang.

Hopefully not a factor is the fact that Eddie had part of his tongue removed a few years ago due to tongue cancer brought on by heavy smoking. Pretty gross.

No, They Didn't Drink Each Other's Blood

Posted on December 5, 2005 at 11:27 AM

Mansonweddingweb
Marilyn Manson married his girlfriend Dita Von Teese in a fairytale wedding at Castle Gurteen in County Tipperary, Ireland on the weekend.

Burlesque dancer Von Teese, whose real name is Heather Sweet, walked down the aisle in a flamboyant purple gown designed by Vivienne Westwood, while Manson (real name Brian Warner) wore a black silk tuxedo by John Galliano.

Ananova.com reports that the 60-strong guests list included Lisa Marie Presley, and took place in the home of the Mansons' friend, artist Gottfried Helnwein.

The non-religious ceremony was led by controversial Austrian underground filmmaker Alejandro Jodrowosky.

The couple exchanged simple vows they wrote themselves — contrary to rumours that they would drink each other's blood in a gothic ceremony.

Scott Stapp: What The F***

Posted on December 2, 2005 at 11:28 AM

Stappweb

Scott Stapp was already the least likable man in rock, but over Thanksgiving, he sunk even lower than previously thought possible.

311 has taken to the message board on its official Web site to clarify reports of an altercation that took place last week between three group members and former Creed frontman Scott Stapp. The apparent fight happened on Thanksgiving in a lounge at Baltimore's Harbor Court Hotel.

According to the post, 311's Chad Sexton, SA Martinez and P-Nut were watching a basketball game in the lounge when Stapp came into the room. “He appeared intoxicated,” the post says. “He drank a shot at the bar and then threw his shot glass, smashing it on the bar. He was acting belligerent and got into an argument with patrons sitting at the bar.”

The band says Stapp proceeded to sit down next to Martinez and make “a disrespectful and crude remark” to his wife. When Sexton asked Stapp to leave, Stapp punched him, according to the post.

The good news is that Stapp's solo album The Great Divide has sold way below expectations, scanning only 94,000 units in its first week.
