Pop star George Michael is to marry long-term partner Kenny Goss in a civil ceremony next year, he has revealed. The former Wham! singer said he would marry his partner of nearly 10 years in a small, private ceremony "without the whole veil and gown thing".
Somewhere, Andrew Ridgeley is sighing a careless whisper...

Veteran rockers the Rolling Stones will perform during the 2006 Super Bowl half-time break, show sponsor Sprint Nextel Corp. said on Tuesday. The Rolling Stones, led by singer Mick Jagger, 62, are in the midst of a world tour featuring tracks of their new album, "A Bigger Bang," as well as such classic hits as "It's Only Rock 'n' Roll (But I Like It)."
Looks like the football teams won't be the only people in tights running around the field at Super Bowl XL. I'm sure we'll hear the standard Start Me Up, Jumpin' Jack Flash and It's Only Rock 'n' Roll (But I Like It). Why does a band that has so many great songs continue to only play these tired tunes at enormo-events? Super Bowl organizers, bring back Janet. Please.

We must be getting down to real slim pickin's now if Lynyrd Freakyn' Skynyrd is in the Rock n' Roll Hall Of Fame:
After years of eligibility, Black Sabbath, the Sex Pistols and Lynyrd Skynyrd will finally be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Also slated for induction at the institution's 21st annual ceremony on March 13th at New York's Waldorf-Astoria Hotel are jazz legend Miles Davis and New York New Wavers Blondie. Formed in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1965, Lynyrd Skynyrd became the essential Southern rock band, with hits "Sweet Home Alabama" and the 1973 classic "Free Bird," a tribute to the recently deceased Duane Allman. The hard-rocking, bluesy group went on to achieve seven Top Twenty pop albums during the Seventies. After singer Ronnie VanZant's sudden death in a 1977 plane crash, the band split up, but the remaining members reunited in 1991 and toured and recorded for much of the Nineties.

...Unless you're one of Maxim's 25 Greatest Short Dudes Of All Time! Topping the list is AC/DC's venerable Angus Young. Finally, a list that makes sense. Others on the list: Kurt Cobain (intersting), Yoda (duh) and Prince (duh duh).
Why compile this group? All in a noble pursuit:
The magazine, in its December issue, claims to be helping women "begin a long overdue fight against their genetically determined shallowness when choosing a partner."
Short men - they're not just for even shorter women anymore.

Rock heroes Pink Floyd, The Who and New Order have been saluted by the music industry at a ceremony to induct them into the UK Music Hall of Fame. But Ozzy Osbourne, whose band Black Sabbath were also honoured, stole the show with a bottom-baring performance. "That was a lot of fun," he said after mooning at the crowd which gave him a standing ovation at the London event. Black Sabbath were presented with their award by Queen guitarist Brian May, then Osbourne went on to moon at the Alexandra Palace crowd.I guess all awards shows have to start somewhere.

He doesn't stop til he gets enough: Michael Jackson entered a Ladies' Room in Dubai. He claims he couldn't read Arabic, but that didn't stop him from touching up his makeup after realizing his error.
Jackson, 41, who regularly enjoys luxury breaks in the Middle East, wandered into the ladies' wearing a traditional Arab scarf across his face. But, as he removed it to touch up his blusher, the offended woman - at the next mirror - screamed in horror and started taking pictures of him on her mobile phone.
Let's give him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he left his nose in there earlier and was just heading back to retrieve it. Come to think of it, he must enjoy all of those face scarves. The Middle East really is the perfect place for him.

50 Cent will again turn his reality into fiction with a new line of hip-hop novellas and graphic novels featuring his former G-Unit rap crew buddies, a publisher announced. Pocket/MTV Books promised the venture would showcase "gritty" stories and cover much of the same terrain as 50 Cent's raps. "These tales will tell the truth about The Life; the sex, guns and cash; the brutal highs and short lives of the players on the streets," the publisher said in a release over the weekend.
Can a bloody, bullet-ridden, rivalry-driven feud between New York publishing houses be far behind? One can only hope.

From the Oven Fresh boards over at Fuse.tv:
Shakira - Don't Bother
kriam_sevtent12 from - Posted on: 11/10/05
Bon from Houston, thank you for replying nicely to my comment. Yeah, I do know something about music, and for sure, Shakira's !*$ is NOT music. The Perishers, Armor For Sleep, Thrice, Radiohead, At The Drive In, Thursday, Coldplay, The Who, The Beatles all make (or used to, in the case of the Beatles) music, not Suckira nor !*$ like #&^@$cat Dolls nor one buck divided by two. Thank you for whatever advice you gave me, but I'll just pass. However, you, Bon, my Houston friend, can do whatever you suggested in said advice for your own sake, and in addition, can go #&^@$ yourself. Have a nice one.

I'm sure Billy Joel is excited to get back out on the road, but given his history, isn't this idea, at best, dubious?

Michael Jackson will come back to the United States, but it's unlikely the King of Pop would ever make it his home again, says his father.
"He'll come back to visit, but not to stay, not to live," Joseph Jackson told The Associated Press in a recent interview.
"They didn't treat him right here. I know if I was him, I wouldn't come back," his father said.
Clearly, this is a desperate situation for those who live outside the United States.
However, the elder Jackson said he expects Michael to return to his music career and hopes it would include a reunion with his brothers.
Clearly, this is a desperate situation for those who can hear.

There ain't nothing funnier than an unknown band. Or, more specifically, there ain't nothing funnier than an unknown band that is unknown for a reason. Thankfully, the folks at rocknrollconfidential.com have a nice little gallery. I think the above pic is funny. In fact, almost all of them are funny.

A British band claims to have set the world record by playing a gig at the world's highest altitude - above Mount Everest's Base Camp. The Hidden said they performed at 5,545m at Kalar Pattar last month. The 40-minute concert, in front of about 100 mountaineers, was to raise money for children victimised by armed conflict in Nepal.Previously, the record for World's Highest Gig was a 1994 Phish concert at the Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

I realize that illegally downloading movies is wrong, is stealing, bad karma, etc. etc., but methinks this is ridiculous:
A 67-year-old man who says he doesn't even like watching movies has been sued by the film industry for copyright infringement after a grandson of his downloaded four movies on their home computer. Lawrence said his grandson, who was then 12, downloaded "The Incredibles," "I, Robot," "The Grudge," and "The Forgotten" in December, without knowing it was illegal to do so. The Racine man said his grandson downloaded the movies out of curiosity, and deleted the computer files immediately. The family already owned three of the four titles on DVD, he said. "I can see where they wouldn't want this to happen, but when you get up around $4,000 … I don't have that kind of money," Lawrence said. "I never was and never will be a wealthy person."
Watching "I, Robot", you're not going to get culturally wealthy, either.

The Game [real name Jayceon Taylor], accused of rowdy behavior and refusing to remove a Halloween mask in a shopping mall, was arrested Friday on a charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Mall security officers said Taylor was wearing a full-face Halloween mask and cursing loudly in front of other patrons, and refused when they asked him to leave, police said. When police arrived, Taylor continued to act up and was arrested, the statement said. Other members of the group were sprayed with pepper spray when they surrounded the officers in a threatening manner, police said. The incident was captured on videotape by a member of the group.
Surrounded the officers in a threatening manner? AND caught on videotape? This could be this generations West Side Story. Except that the principals are wealthy rappers wearing Halloween masks and it takes place in a Greensboro, North Carolina mall. So maybe not.
