Following last month's (historic?) appearance at the KROQ Christmas concert by Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland of the Police, Copeland has written a diary entry for Billboard magazine, discussing his desire to play Police songs live, but Sting's desire to never, ever go back to the Police, girlfriend.
Andy and I have been trying for years to think of a way of
playing Police songs together that doesn't stink to high
heaven. We like the songs, and we like playing together, but
Sting don't wanna. Of course, we can't be called the Police
unless it includes Sting, so what can we do?
So what to do? How about hook up with Incubus to play a few songs. Incubus + 2/3 of the Police performed Police classics Roxanne and Message In A Bottle as well as the familiar Incubus hits Pardon Me and Megalomaniac. Stewart Copeland... the greatest drummer of the 80s? The greatest Tama drums, Paiste cymbals, octoban-bashing, traditional grip-playing drummer ever?

In a real shocker, Beyonce has announced that she is looking to set up her own line of clothing. "I have pretty broad taste. I've been all over the world — thank God I've had the chance to do that," she says. Don't know about taste, but she sure is a pretty broad; check out the photo above! OK, sorry about that. Anyway, she's doing it (giggle) with her mom and another chick. So if she's been all over the world, then she must know where the best sweatshops are, right?

With a comment like that, how could Sum 41 NOT head over and play 4 russians too? Next up, some love for Lindsay Lohan...

Adam from Brooklyn, NY - Posted on: 01/26/05
Lindsy Lohan is so &!*^@ing beautiful. But by god, she can't sing. She can't even lip sync. She proved it on the today show or whatever. But man oh man is she attractive

Here's some good/cool/somewhat surprising news: rock god Neil Young is set to play the Juno Awards on April 3. For those of you south of the border and ignorant of matters canuck (IE most of us), the Junos are Canada's annual music awards; their Grammys or Brits. The lineup of live performers looks tantalizing: Neil Young, making a triumphant return to his hometown, as well as the Tragically Hip, who'll be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall Of Fame. Will Sum 41 make the journey west from suburban Toronto to perform? They just might! Time to check springtime flights to Manitoba.

She's waiting for you! But if you've been waiting for her, you'll have to wait a little longer... Mariah Carey's new album Mimi has been pushed back to April. No reason was given, but perhaps it was so the album release would not have to compete with baseball fever and the leadup to Opening Day. Remeber when Mariah, oops Mimi, dated Derek Jeter?

As rumored, discussed, anticipated, everything-ed, U2 will be touring in the spring. Sadly, and boringly, the tour will be called Vertigo 2005. This is in sharp contrast to previous, charmingly monikered tours (Lovetown, Zooropa, Zoomerang). Anyway, the cheapest tickets will be on the general admission floor, grandmas will have to pay to sit down. Notice there is a lot of space between shows. Presumably they plan on adding one, two or more shows to cities with particularly speedy sales. Don't go if they bug ya.

Leave it to Brett Scallions to get this party started (and retarded!). Brett and his mates in FUEL performed last night at a presidential inaugural event called America's Future Rocks Today (which it obviously does: Hilary Duff and Ryan Cabrera were both on the bill). Brett got himself into a bit of hot water by using a bad, bad word. In fact, the same word that Vince Neil used on New Year's Eve. Brett said "Welcome to the greatest freakin' country in the world!" Only he didn't say freakin'. The Bush twins hosted, which is only fitting. What a bizarre night.

Poor Kristin Hersh. The former Throwing Muses star named her new band 50 Foot Wave, which is the term for the lowest sound audible to the human ear. 50 Foot Wave even opened for the Pixies in New York. Given the recent events in Asia, however, the name seems a bit weird now...

Honest Liam! That's who's being tapped to portray Abraham Lincoln for a biopic that Steven Spielberg has percolating in that beard of his. At least that's the word from the Springfield (IL) Journal-Record, via Variety, the "bible of the entertainment industry", according to the SJ-R. Given the unprecedented number of midichlorians in his system, Neeson seems a good choice. Actor/martial arts expert Ray Park has been tapped to play Stephen Douglass for a debate scene that will have to be seen to be believed:

Quick - What did Vince Neil do in Las Vegas over the weekend?
A. He put it all on red
B. He hit the strip joints
C. He got married
ANSWER: All of the above!
They say a married man's a fool, but don't tell that to Vince Neil - he went and got himself married over the weekend at the Four Seasons in Vegas. What kind of ceremony was it? Catholic? Methodist? Jewish? Who knows, but MC Hammer officiated (and called no penalties, apparently). Also in attendance: Nikki Sixx, Tommy Lee (don't they hate each other?), Dennis Rodman (who had 24 rebounds), Playboy Playmate Brande Roderick and writer Christopher Hitchens (not true).

In the biggest outpouring of musical aid since 1985's Live Aid and We Are The World, large benefit concerts have been scheduled in the US, the UK and Canada. What does Canada have that the US doesn't? Well, Avril Lavigne for one... the Ontario ambassador to mallpunk will appear at the January 29th show at GM Place in Vancouver. The show will also feature Sarah McLaughlin and Barenaked Ladies. Here's a list of various shows across this planet we like to call 3rd Rock From The Sun:
January 15: An NBC telethon featuring Sheryl Crow, Christina Aguilera and Kenny Chesney.
January 25: Broken Social Scene's benefit at Lee's Palace in Toronto.

Blond teen "star" Aaron Carter narrowly escaped a fiery doom on a Florida highway earlier this week. The "singer", who released an "album" a few years back called Come Get It, had been tooling down the motorway when a cargo truck in front of him lost a matress. Aaron drove over the mattress, which proceeded to get stuck under his SUV (come get it). There, it caught fire, prompting Aaron to pull over. Aaron and his "friend" got out of the car. Later, the vehicle exploded. If you wanted to come get it, too bad. All that was left was the charred remains of a Cadillac Escalade and the burnt embers of a tepid career.

Where has William Hung been, you asked? Why, he's been making movies in Asia! Where Is Mama's Boy? recently opened in Singapore, and William was there to celebrate his role in the film, a "street vendor who befriends a music club owner, played by Hong Kong starlet Nancy Sit." The big news, however, is what Hung told The Straits Times: he doesn't want to play bad guys. No sir; no obscenity, violence, vulgarity ... nuttin. Maybe a good guy agent? Hung ... William Hung. 009. You're Only Hung Once... From Hong Kong With Love... From Hung Kung With Luv... Goldhunger... Dr. Hung... The Man With The Horrible Voice... Never Sing She Bangs Again...

Heidi Klum and Seal are a hot couple. And now they're engaged! How did they get engaged? They affianced! That's what Heidi Klum says on her site. I'd never heard that word before, but good on 'em. Anyway, the affiancin' went down in Whistler, B.C.:
"We reached this beautiful place by helicopter one day before Christmas Eve. It was a unique experience," says Heidi. Wait - they reached their state of bliss by helicopter?!?

Tommy Lee is a college student. Vince Neil oozes class. So there is no way that NBC can be held responsible for the lil f-bomb that Vince dropped on the New Year's Eve LIVE episode of The Tonight Show. "Happy ***ing New Year, Tommy!" bellowed Neil, no doubt salivating at the green that will be forthcoming from the Crue's Red, White and Crue tour which is set to begin barnstorming in February. Vince Neil is available for christenings.

America's favorite ambassadors of college football, U2, will be debuting their new video for "All Because Of You" at halftime of tonight's Orange Bowl game between USC and Oklahoma. After halftime, you'll be able to access the video on espn.com. Which is good for espn.com because they need the traffic, and U2's fans around the world will no doubt be amazed by the surrounding content, and espn will now have people from places as far-flung as Karachi and Cork coming to their site each day to read pithy analyses of the year's best "uni's" and other such jocularity.
