Hope you're not too tired from any recent awards shows (maybe it was the Vibe Awards? Hard to keep straight) because the Billboard Awards are comin' atcha live from Las Vegas! Specifically the MGM Grand, on December 8. Usher leads the way with 13 nominations, while Alicia Keys is up for 12 awards. The awards are, you guessed it, determined by Billboard chart performance over the past year. So the suspense is there if you never follow the Billboard charts.
Big stars will be there! Gwen Stefani, Usher, Nelly and Green Day are scheduled to perform. And Ryan Seacrest hosts!
Hope no one flashes a boob, starts a fight or says the F word. Hmmm, maybe awards shows aren't so bad after all. Seacrest out.

Country singer Toby Keith, he of the notorious The Ugly American single, is opening a chain of diners (courtesy of the red, white and blue spatula?), called Toby Keith's I Love This Bar And Grill. What a mouthful. And speaking of mouthfuls, what did Keith demand from developers before agreeing to the venture? " We've got to have great food, and I'm going to have the last say-so on that, and y'all get the royalty checks right and we'll all agree."
Be sure to run to Toby Keith's I Love This Bar And Grill when you hear the ole dinner bell a-clangin'! If Toby Keith has the last say-so on the food, you know it's gotta be good.

Happy Atmospherically Rockin' Holidays from everyone favorite atmospheric rockers. The Walkmen release an mp3 for Christmas: The Christmas Party. Recorded after much eggnog, apparently.
It's a nice addition to a rock n' roll tradition - the Christmas (or holiday) single. The Beatles were among the first, if not the first, to do, sending out flimsy 45s to fanclub members back in the sixties.
Listen to the mp3 online, and/or purchase the 7-inch once it is in stores. Also on the single: another Walkmen orignal entitled, yup, Eggnog, and a cover of the (fabulous) Modern Lovers track Fly Into The Mystery.

Good news for people who like babies (isn't that all of us?) - Julia Roberts popped her shortiez out a month early. The big event went down in la la land on sunday, and according to reports, mother and munchkins are doing fine.
Their names? Phinnaeus Walter and Hazel Patricia. Next time, try something original Julia! Like John, or Jon.
Somewhere in east Texas, Lyle Lovett is whistling a plaintive tune...

Ozzy Osbourne's career as a reality-show star is over, according to the singer.
He will wrap up the final season and not shoot another. Wife Sharon Osbourne agreed with the decision.
"Now everybody's doing (reality shows). He's done it, he's been there, he's got to do something else," she said.
After jumping into action to try and snag a burglar earlier in the week, maybe Ozzy's next TV career should be on Cops.

It has certainly been U2 week here in New York. An SNL performance, media appearances, a video shoot for All Because Of You (ergo the rolling performance area) and a free show where the streets have no name ... in Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park, located in Brooklyn between the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges. You see, in parks they don't have streets, or names, and ... never mind.

Burglars broke into Ozzy Osbournes' mansion in England over the weekend and stole a large amount of jewelry.
The burglars used a ladder to enter a second-floor room, awakening residents of the house. One of the residents grabbed one of the burglars and tried to retsrain him, but the burglar broke free and escaped after jumping out a 30-foot-tall window.

Rolling Stone magazine has just unveiled their list of the greatest rock'n'roll songs of all time, and not surprisingly, topping the list is one of the songs that probably inspired the name of the magazine back in the mid-to-late 60s.
Bob Dylan's, "Like a Rolling Stone" topped the list created by Rolling Stone...just a little ironic, don't you think?
"No other pop song has so thoroughly challenged and transformed the commercial laws and artistic conventions of its time, for all time," wrote Rolling Stone senior editor David Fricke in an article accompanying the magazine's list of the top 500 rock songs of all time.
Coming in at #2 was the Rolling Stones' (hmm, is this a pattern?) 1965 classic, "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction," followed by John Lennon's, "Imagine," Marvin Gaye's, "What's Going On," and Aretha Franklin's, "Respect."
The Beatles notched the most entries on the list with 22 songs.

The Vibe Awards turned into a brawl the other night as a fight broke out as Snoop Dogg was presenting Dr. Dre with a lifetime achievement award. A man in the crowd was stabbed in the melee and Dre was punched in the face.
The incident started around 7:30 pm as Dre was seated and aboout to go up and accept his award. An unidentified man walked up to the table and puynched Dre in the face, setting off a huge scuffle with the crowd and Dre's security guys. In the mayhem, a 26-year-old man was stabbed in an attempt that some believe was meant for Dre.
There was chaos in the crowd as people tried to calm the disturbance and get back to the show.
Fingers were immmediately pointed at "Suge" Knight, Dre's former Death Row partner whom he had a huge falling out with years ago. Knight denied any involvement.
The story gets even stanger today as police have now issued an assault with a deadly weapon arrest warrant for G-Unit rapper Young Buck. Police say they have enough video evidence to prove that Buck was one of the men seen on tape stabbing the man who went after Dre.
So Young Buck steps up to protect Dre, but it still doesn't answer the question of who attacked Dre in the first place and why.

Looks like the romance between Wilmer Valderrama and Lindsay Lohan is kaput. According to rumors, she dumped Fez for her Freaky Friday co-star Chad Michael Murray. We knew it wouldn't last forever, but we're still surprised and I don't know why. Maybe because it was just a few days ago that we saw the pair on That 70s Show together and we're already feeling nostalgic. Will Fez ever love again?

All those creationists in the red states sure probably won't like Eve the Novel.
It's a completely strange offering that details all the genetic mutations we'll be able to order up come the year 3032.
Actually, with the way things are going in this country right now, it could be 4032.

Usher cleaned up at last night's American Music Awards, taking home all four awards he was nominated for.
Always the most populist awards show, winner are determined by a poll of 20,000 people after record sales determine the nominees. You definitely won't see any indie artists on the AMA's anytime soon.
So instead, we get a winner's list that could just as easily be the current top of the playlist of any Top 40 radio station.

The hip-hop world was stunned over the weekend at the news that Ol' Dirty Bastard collapsed and died in Manhattan during the middle of a recording session. O.D.B., whose real name was Russell Jones, would have turned 36 today.
Doctors are still investigating the cause of the mysterious death and it could be days before results are in.
The death of O.D.B. was the talk of the American Music Awards last night, with many artists weighing in about the loss.
"Rest in peace Ol' Dirty Bastard," OutKast's Big Boi said while accepting one of his group's three awards of the night. "We love you."

Entertainment Weekly have announced the results of its Greatest Hip Hop Album of All Time list, and the winner is...
Eric B and Rakim's "Paid in Full."
Dispute it if you will, but the 1987 album is always listed as one of the most influential hip-hop albums. Whether or not it's #1 will always be up for debate.
The magazine looked at 25 years of hip-hop history to come up with their list, which even they admit is completely subjective.
What about recent hip-hop artists? Jay-Z's "The Blueprint" was #15, while Eminem's "The Marshall Mathers EP" came in at #17.

Halo2 finally hit shelves last night at midnight, and Fuse was on the scene at the Toys'R'Us in NYC's Times Square for the huge launch event. Thousands of people waited in line for hours in the cold, some for over 12 hours, to be one of the first to get their hands on a copy of the much-anticipated title. Halo2 fan Wilmer Valderrama was there to pass out the first copy to the first guys in line (and, no, Lindsay Lohan was not there with him).
In a day and age where very little lives up to the media hype that surrounds it, Halo2 surpasses expectations with smooth, intense gameplay, a ton of new features and the opportunity to jump online and destroy your friends.
Check out the pics below, but for the full story, be sure to tune in to Fuse's Amplified Guide to the Holidays on November 22.

Unless you have been living under a rock, you've seen Reid and her latest indiscretion while on the red carpet for Puffy's birthday extravanganza. I know Tara likes to show off her new boob job, but she couldn't ne happy about this.
But...

HBO announced today that the upcoming season of Six Feet Under will be the last.
"Everything comes to an end," said series creator Alan Ball.
True, but come on, it hasn't even started to suck yet. So soon on HBO, no more Six Feet Under, we have to wait a decade until the next season of Sopranos. Well at least Entourage doesn't suck.

So I've tried to refrain from posting about politics since Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004...A Day That Will Live in Infamy, but I couldn't resist this actual front page from London's Daily Mirror and a recently redrawn map of North America that sums up the thoughts of quite a few. Don't worry, it's back to mindless pop culture for good after this.

So all the record labels and artists are gearing up for the holidays, preparing to shove their unique brand of holiday schmaltz down everyone's throats. Warm up the fruitcake and get ready for:
- "ReJoyce: The Christmas Album" from Jessica Simpson: Jessica's holiday sizzler includes contributions from husband/porn-star aficionado Nick Lachey and lip-syncher extroidinaire/sister Ashlee Simpson. If that's not enough Jessica (and enough lip-synching) for you, she'll also be releasing the DVD "Jessica Simpson: Reality Tour Live."
- John Mellencamp will perform at halftime of the Thanksgiving Day game between the Detroit Lions and the Indianapolis Colts. The theme of the halftime show? "Join the Team: Millions of People Giving Back in Hundreds of Ways to Celebrate One America. (as long as the Christian conservatives agree with it)"
- Paul McCartney and Bono join new Band Aid lineup: The dynamic duo join a host of others in a remake of "Do They Know It's Christmas?"

The 60s had the lava lamp and now in 2004, we have the Laserpod, the latest stoner visual accessory that should keep a large segment of people staring at the ceiling for hours.
What is it? It's basically a light gadget that uses a laser to create random light effects. It comes with a dome that produces a sort of Aurora Borealis within it, but take the dome off and you can project the trippy laser show onto a wall, ceiling, etc.
It's been out in Japan for a while, but it's now coming to the U.S. I4U has a review of the Laserpod, or you can check out their official site. Bong not included.

Fuse's Daily Download has a really good, interesting new band on the show today that's definitely worth checking out.
Skindred mixes metal, reggae, punk, dancehall and drum and bass into an ecelectic mix of the familiar in an entirely new context. They like to call it Ragga Metal, but if you're into any of the above genres, you'll probably just call it good.
So check out Skindred on Daily Download at 6 pm ET and be prepared to get your rock and reggae on.

Eminem's label announced today that because of piracy threats and what they call "rabid" demand (which means they are really worried about piracy), they are moving up the release date for Shady's latest, "Encore." Look for it to drop Nov. 12 now instead of Nov. 16.
So if you haven't downloaded it illegally yet, get your cash ready for Nov. 12.

Lil' Kim is going back to school, but the scantily clad one won't be taking classes, she'll be giving them.
Kim will travel to Syracuse University this week to speak to a group of students enrolled in "Hip-Hop Eshu: Queen B@ $H101 — The Life and Times of Lil' Kim," a class that studies the hip-hop diva and her cultural contribution. Students read Kim's song lyrics as literary texts and analyze the deep iconography and symbolism of her performances and music videos.
Maybe Lil' Kim will be the best person to explain to students the cultural significance and societal impact of lettin' it all hang out.
